The £29.95 calendar holds individually wrapped teabags of 16 different blends, from Ceylon, Darjeeling and Tippy Assam to Whittard classics such as Chelsea Breakfast, Piccadilly and English Rose, plus three chais and a Christmas Tea. If you prefer something sweeter, Whittard also has a Hot Chocolate Advent Calendar at £79.95, with two sachets behind each of its 24 doors.

Whittard has been blending tea in London since 1886, and its advent calendars are a fixture of the Christmas gift aisle. This year, rather than a mix of green, herbal and fruit infusions, the tea calendar focuses entirely on black tea, “the world’s most popular tea style”, according to the brand. Each teabag is individually wrapped to keep it fresh, and the calendar comes in a red and gold baubles design.

What we think
At £29.95, this is a good-value food and drink calendar, and it is one you will actually finish: a cup a day is an easy habit in December. The line-up is a real tour of black tea, from single origins (Darjeeling, Assam, Kenya, Ceylon) to flavoured blends, and the three chais are a nice change from the usual breakfast teas. Piccadilly, Whittard’s best-known flavoured black tea, is a highlight.
The downside is that it is one-note by design. If you, or the person you are buying for, drink green or herbal tea, or avoid caffeine in the evening, there is nothing here for you. And because the teas are all teabags, loose leaf fans may find it a little ordinary. Treat it as a tasting tour that helps you choose your next full-size caddy.
Whittard Hot Chocolate Advent Calendar: £79.95
The Whittard Hot Chocolate Advent Calendar is the bigger, pricier option: 24 doors, each with two hot chocolate sachets, so 48 in total. Whittard names Luxury Hot Chocolate, Luxury White Hot Chocolate and Salted Caramel among the flavours, “alongside a variety of other delicious blends”.
