Boxcitement – March 2020: taking it Japan-easy

It’s an interesting time, isn’t it? Some of us are finding out that they are going to have to be stuck inside for months and everything feels very surreal. One thing that I am now going to definitely look forward to is receiving my monthly Boxcitement box. It will definitely brighten up my solitary confinement. The March box arrived a few days ago and it definitely lifted my spirits.

What’s in the box?

  • A purse designed using traditional kimono fabric patterns
  • A wood and gemstone necklace
  • Cherry blossom themed gift wrap set
  • Wooden engraved pen to help find your ‘ikigai’
  • A kawaii notepad with magnetic back
  • A pair of bright socks inspired by the Harajuku girls of Tokyo
  • A bamboo trinket dish.

The highlights

These socks really put a smile on my face! Not only that, but they are really soft and comfortable. These will definitely get a lot of use in the coming weeks and months ahead.

This pendant is really beautiful and very tactile too. I often have a fan on me as I am naturally a very hot person (ooh-er!) so it’s particularly apt for me. The explanation about conveying secret messages was really interesting too.

The trinket dish is also a lovely addition. It will be a great place to keep a few rings (and the fan necklace!). I’ve always been a fan of Japanese art, and the waves in particular. This is definitely going to get a lot of use.

I love this little purse and it is particularly well timed with all the blossom on the trees right now. I love that it is made from fully recycled cotton. It’s a great little handy size to use every day.

I’m not a massive fan of kawaii – but I can see the cute appeal in this. With many of us now home working and having to learn what it is like to not only live with partners but to become co-workers too. This will be getting a lot of use on our fridge; most likely from me posting passive aggressive notes about doing the washing up!

This gift wrap set is absolutely stunning. Given that I can’t get out to the shops it will come in handy if I need to send off any presents to friends.

I think usually this would have been my least favourite item. However given the current circumstances, learning about ikigai has become my new favourite thing! I’m definitely going to spend the next few months working on mine.

Our score: 10.0/ 10

Given that this box would have been planned out well before coronavirus, this has been a well timed box with a nice theme that works in the current climate. I'm going to be spending a lot of time learning about my ikigai as I will definitely need a reason to get up in the morning if I am to stay inside for 3 months. Thanks to the team at Boxcitement for making this prospect less scary!
