Boxcitement – May 2018: Mono-dramatic surprises galore

I look forward to the Boxcitement delivery every month and because I follow the page on Instagram I know roughly when that will be, and will have had one or two sneak peeks at what is to come; I really like that detail and the suspense (and excitement) that builds each month. This month was another great box, with the theme of monochrome. It felt a bit of a ‘wintery’ theme at first but I think that’s because it arrived during the heatwave and everything had felt really bright and colourful in the world. However the monochrome nature of the box made the contents appear really stylish and I loved looking through what was inside:

  • A bookmark
  • A set of cute and quirky character notecards and envelopes
  • A mirror with accompanying velvet pouch
  • An acrylic key shaped keyring
  • A set of paperclips and an eraser (or rubber!)
  • A ‘bright ideas’ notebook for all your latest plans and thoughts
  • And a stylish black and white cherry blossom print.

The highlights

My top three items were the notebook, the bracelet and the notecards set. As you can see the notebook looks really good quality and as a glasses wearer myself I loved the quirky little logo on the front. I would happily get this out of my bag during a meeting, or indeed use it for my plotting and planning. It’s the sort of notebook I would happily buy in the shops.

The notecards and envelopes continued this quirky theme and I chuckled at the natty hipster zebra and his charming cat lady friend. I am a bit rubbish at sending proper post but it’s something I want to get better at so I am looking forward to using these. I hope they bring the same smile to the face of the recipient as they did to me.

My only quibble

The bracelet was one of my favourites but as you can also see, if you are a bit of a perfectionist there is something a bit wrong here. I don’t like to mix silver and gold jewellery so I don’t think I’d be able to wear all three charms together which is a shame as I actually like the look of them in this grouping. I have worn just the heart charm and just the stone charm but not yet worn the disk as I prefer to wear less bright gold jewellery so I may need to replace the clasp with a different one. Not the end of the world, but it is a slight issue.

I did really love the fact the bracelet was quite generous; I have wide wrists and so often find elasticated bracelets can be tight or irritating, this one was perfect and it looks lovely on. The only other slight issue I have is that I actually don’t carry any keys around with me (we have a smart door and I don’t drive!) so I don’t need a keyring!! However I am aware that makes me a bit of a freak so I can’t take any points off for that.

All in all, I really liked this box. The mirror is in my handbag, the bookmark is in use, the bracelet has been worn already and I’m busy hatching plots and plans in the notebook. Well done Deb and the team at Boxcitement, another winner!

Our score: 9.8/ 10

Another hit from the Boxcitement team. I have found uses for virtually everything this month and I really enjoyed all the thought put in to the items, including details like the little black and white confetti hearts added in. The only reason I'm marking down is because I'm a bit picky and like to wear silver or gold and my bracelet had one charm with a gold clip and two silver so I wouldn't feel 'right' wearing all three charms together (which I wanted to do). As you can tell, that's really picky, but I just couldn't give a full 10 across the board because of that tiny detail.
