Zavvi, the online shop for film, TV and gaming merchandise behind the ZBOX mystery box, has stopped trading. Chris Skey and Kerry Bailey of BDO were appointed joint administrators of ZavviGroup Ltd on 12 October 2026, and the notice now on zavvi.com says outstanding orders and pre-orders will not be fulfilled. If you had paid for a 2026 advent calendar, a collector’s box or a ZBOX plan, here is how to try to get your money back.
What the administrators have said
The notice is short and blunt. The company “has ceased trading with immediate effect”, it “is unable to fulfil any outstanding orders or pre-orders”, customers should not place new orders, and no returns of any kind are accepted. According to Business & Accountancy Daily, at least 70 staff are at risk at the Winsford warehouse in Cheshire.
That matters at this time of year. Zavvi had been selling its 2026 pop-culture advent calendars, with Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Wednesday and Naruto designs listed for release at the end of October. Those pre-orders are now among the orders that will not be sent. ZBOX, the monthly geek box with a themed T-shirt that Zavvi sold on rolling and prepaid 3, 6 and 12-month plans, is covered by the same notice: if you had paid ahead for boxes, treat the remaining ones as undelivered orders.

How to get your money back
The administrators point customers to their bank, card issuer or payment provider. As T3 explains, customers who wait for the administration itself are unsecured creditors, so they are near the back of the queue. Your payment method decides your best route:
- Credit card, item over £100: you can claim from your card provider under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, which makes the lender jointly liable when an item costs more than £100 and up to £30,000.
- Debit card, or a credit card purchase under £100: ask your bank for a chargeback. It is not a legal right but a card scheme rule, and banks usually apply time limits (often 120 days from when the goods were due), so do not leave it until Christmas.
- PayPal: open a dispute for an item not received through your PayPal account.
- Klarna, Clearpay or another buy now, pay later plan: report the problem to the provider and ask about its dispute process before your next instalment.
- Gift cards, store credit or nothing else working: you can submit a claim in the administration. Email the enquiries inbox the administrators set up, [email protected], and you will receive an automatic reply with an FAQ and the claim form.
Keep your order confirmation emails, the order number, the payment date and a screenshot of the notice. That is everything your bank will ask for.
What it means for your Christmas plans
The awkward part is timing. Most pop-culture advent calendars are licensed products that sell out by November, so if your Zavvi pre-order was a gift, it is worth replacing it now rather than waiting for a refund. LEGO’s calendars are the easiest swap for Star Wars and Marvel fans: our LEGO advent calendars 2026 comparison covers all five sets from £22.99. For grown-up countdowns, our guide to the best beauty advent calendars in the UK and the men’s and drinks advent calendars round up what is still in stock.
If you were a ZBOX subscriber, our ZBOX listing shows what the box used to include, and our directory of UK subscription boxes lists others to compare. Before you sign up for a new subscription, check how far ahead you pay: a monthly plan you can cancel limits what you can lose if a company fails. The new rules explained in our article on UK subscription rules from January 2027 will also make cancelling easier.
