By Loaf & Ladle posts a recipe, puzzle and tea each month for £7

The October letter, Maple Pecan Cookies recipe card, Cosy Crossword and tea bag from A Letter from the Kitchen on a wooden table

By Loaf & Ladle, a food business in Aberdeenshire, has launched A Letter from the Kitchen, a monthly letter subscription that costs £7 a month with free UK delivery. Each envelope holds a personal letter, a seasonal recipe card, a puzzle and a tea or infusion, and the brand pitches it as a screen-free break. It announced the launch on 13 October 2026.

What do you get in A Letter from the Kitchen?

By Loaf & Ladle says every month’s letter has four parts:

  • A letter: a personal note from the kitchen about what the team has been baking and the season.
  • A recipe card: a seasonal recipe to make at home, designed to be kept and collected.
  • A puzzle: a crossword, quiz or other paper-and-pencil activity.
  • A tea or infusion: chosen to suit the month’s theme and recipe.

The first letter, for October 2026, shows a Maple Pecan Cookies recipe card for 14 servings, a Cosy Crossword and a tea bag in a small sleeve. The brand has also mentioned sticky toffee and masala chai among its tea blends.

How much does it cost and how does it work?

The product page shows £7.00 for a one-time purchase, or £7.00 every month if you subscribe. By Loaf & Ladle says you can cancel at any time, and delivery across the UK is free, with charges for overseas orders. You can also give it as a gift for as many months as you like, even just one, by adding the recipient’s details at checkout.

The letter comes in an envelope through the post, so it needs no box and should fit through a letterbox. The brand does not state a posting date each month, so check the product page for timing before you order it for a deadline.

What we think: a small treat, not a recipe kit

Our take is that this is a cheap gift idea rather than a meal box. At £7 you get paper, a recipe and a single tea bag, so you buy the ingredients yourself, and the recipe card is the main lasting item. If you like baking and want a nudge to do it away from your phone, £7 a month is a low commitment, and the one-off option lets you try one letter first.

It is a new, small business, so we have no reviews to share yet. The brand is based in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire and also sells bake boxes and charcuterie boxes on its site.
