YumeTwins – Japanese Kawaii March 2020

YumeTwins is a monthly box of Japanese kawaii products from Tokyo. It is part of the TokyoTreat subscription box group which also includes TokyoTreat and nomakenolife. Each box contains 5 kawaii items including plushies and lifestyle goods plus premium anime brands.

They have one-, three-, six-, and 12-month subscriptions costing $35.00, $33.50, $32.00, and $31.50 per month respectively (from around £25).

Spring starts in March, so this month’s theme Spring Cleaning is perfect to make the task of cleaning up your home a little more cute!

The menu booklet shows us the five items in this month’s box.

Mini Sumikko Gurashi Dustbin.

This is a little swing top bin that is small enough to pop on your desk or kitchen counter for small items you want to throw away. There are four different designs. all Sumikko Gurashu characters. This little Kitty is Neko, which actually means cat in Japanese!

Japanese Animal Print Apron.

This is actually my favorite item by far! It’s one of 14 possible patterns, and shows a whole lots of adorable Shiba dogs in various poses.

It’s 100% cotton, which  means it’s easy to clean. The style is also really nice. Instead of the usual loop over the head that you’re used to in an apron, there are loops that go over the shoulders and cross over at the back to tie, which is actually much more comfortable. There are also two pockets, plus an extra loop to hang extra cloths at hand. Perfect for cleaning or cooking!

Sanrio / San-X Cleaner Card

This is the featured item this month. We all have touchscreens now, and mine is always covered in smudges! This small compact cleaning card is a very clever design. Rather than a cloth, that can get balled up and forgotten, this card will slide into a pocket or even into a larger purse. It’s also very effective for cleaning off your phone or tablet.

Sanrio Character Sponge

You get either Hello Kitty or this My Melody sponge in the box. It’s certainly very cute, though I’m not sure I’d ever want to use it because it’s too adorable! But it will definitely make cleaning the sink more fun.

Shiba & Neko Air Freshener

This is one of the classic cardboard air fresheners that you most often see hanging from car rear view mirrors, though you can hang it anywhere you like! This one is lavender scented, and has a cute dog or can design.

Our score: 8.6/ 10

As I said, the standout item for me this month is the apron. It's a great size and the design is both cute and practical. The only things I'm slightly disappointed by the the air freshener. If it was a Sanrio or other premium kawaii brand it would be better, but these kinds of air fresheners are generally very cheap it doesn't feel like it adds much value to the box. The card cleaner is incredibly useful, and a much better alternative to cleaning my phone screen with my sleeve! The bin is cute, though definitely for dry items only unless you use a liner. It would be great fun to use as a kitchen scraps bin though. As for the sponge, I think I'm going to have to keep it for emergencies, as I don't think I can bear to use it for something as boring as cleaning the bath!
