Toppbox – April 2019

Toppbox is a monthly box of men’s grooming supplies. It costs £19 per month plus £3.35 p+p, but the box contents will always be a considerably higher value.

I love skincare products, but my husband gets to try out the items for this box, so opinions are mostly his., though I often use these products myself. This is definitely pretty good for sharing opportunities!

The box looks nice and tidy because it’s sent inside a jiffy bag, so no labels! There is also extra tissue padding, so any damage is extremely unlikely.

On top is the menu card. You can also catch a glimpse of some interesting sachets!

The menu card gives you descriptions of each item, along with RRPs. I always check prices, so you can be confident you’re getting good value for money.

Seacret Pure Salt Body Exfoliator is clearly the premium product this month with an RRP of £29! I can only find it for sale on their own website, but that is indeed the price.  According to the packaging it is for the body, but the website says it can be used for the face as well. It’s a nice exfoliant, containing Dead Sea mineral salt and coconut oil, and while I’m not quite sure its worth the high price tag, it’s a good product.

I’ve always wanted to try a foaming mask! This is a Barber Pro Foaming Cleansing Mask and contains activated charcoal and AHA for deep cleansing.

UpCircle Fennel and Cardamom Chai Soap Bar cleverly reuses chai spices left over from making chai syrup. It does have a lovely spicy scent, and is very gentle on your skin. It also contains shea butter for hydration. It can be used on body and face, though I personally prefer soap bars for the body.

ZEOS for Men QU3 Face Scrub is a nice cleansing scrub specially for the face. It’s not harsh on the skin so can be used several times a week. The extra vitamins are great for skin which is exposed to a lot of pollutants!

Finally, Anatomicals Phwoar! Not Straw Restorative Avocado and Wheat Germ Hair Mask. This pack contains three treatments, or possibly more for very short hair. As well as being nourishing, it protects against UV damage, which will be very useful as the weather gets sunnier.

My favourite item this months is definitely the foaming mask, and it’s one my husband isn’t going to get! I like the scrubs, though I don’t think it’s ideal to have two scrubs in one box, even if one is technically for body as well as face.

We get through soap pretty fast in our house, so it’s always useful to have another bar ready to go. This one really smells delicious too.

The hair mask will probably be shared, though I’m not sure how well the 3 applications will last with my long hair. But it’s definitely nice to change it up a bit, especially with having a face mask as well.

The overall value is very good. Even if you consider the price of the sea salt scrub to be a little on the optimistic side, the RRPs of everything are represented correctly, and you get far more than the price of the box.

Our score: 9.2/ 10

A good selection of quality products, though perhaps not quite as well balanced as usual. However having two masks, hair and face, are are the makings of a rather nice pamper evening!
