My Geek Box – December 2019

My Geek Box is exactly as it sounds – a box of geeky stuff! There’s no theme or menu, you simply get a selection of items from a huge assortment of geeky franchises.
It costs from £19.99 a month, including postage.
This month’s t-shirt is from one of my favourite franchises ever, Rick and Morty! The design is pretty fun, featuring Rick’s immortal catchphrase Wubba Lubba Dub Dub. As far as I can tell it’s an actual Adult Swim product, which means it’s official merchandise. The only thing I’m sad about is that it’s not 100% cotton. I’ve mentioned this before, and I feel very strongly that shirts should always be cotton, as often the poly blends are slightly sweaty and uncomfortable, and doesn’t last well. Oh well.
This is a new type of figure for me. They’re Marvel Anumated Mini Heroes, small PVC figurines of Marvel characters in a whimsical style and setting. This one is Spider-Gwen, a fun take on Gwen Stacey crouching on a chimney playing with a yoyo and dressed as Spiderman.
My Geek Box really likes Fallout accessories. In previous boxes we’ve had bottle openers, but this time we have a set of four metal coasters in the Sunset Sarsapilla soda design.
They’re actually really nice coasters, made from copper coloured metal with a nonslip cork base. Surprisingly useful and stylish.
Game of Thrones might have finished, but the fandom are going strong!  This journal is a properly practical item, as it has both an elastic closure and a ribbon bookmark. Inside each page has a place for the date and day of the week as well as marking the weather. A great alternative to a regular diary, and a thoughtful thing to include in the December box.
Finally, another fun item. This is a Stormtrooper Headlamp. It’s made by Philips, which gives some assurances of quality, the band is adjustable and batteries are included. It’s definitely more on the fun side rather than practical, though the LEDs are reasonably bright. It’s not a toy but I’d say it’s more for camping in the garden than in the wilderness!

Our score: 8.4/ 10

I think My Geek Box have really upped their game. First of all I was so relieved to not see yet more Star Trek books. The franchises are pretty top tier, as is the branding. I don't mind seeing a similar Fallout item because they're really nice coasters. I love that almost all the items have proper practical use. The figure I don't love quite as much as it is purely decorative, but it's still fun. My only minor but real gripe is the polycotton shirt. but I still love the design! It's a great improvement this month, I really hope My Geek Box keeps it up!
