everystate, the mushroom coffee everyone is talking about: worth it?

everystate is the functional mushroom drinks brand co-founded by Ellie Goulding: coffee, matcha and cacao blends with lion’s mane, cordyceps or reishi, sold mainly by subscription at £36 a month (or £45 as a one-off) for 30 cups. Launched in May 2025, it reached 64 Boots stores in September 2026 with new 7-Day Ritual Packs. We looked at the price per cup, what the mushroom claims do and do not tell you, and the subscription terms on everystate.co.

A pop star’s morning ritual, turned into a brand

According to its “our story” page, everystate is “co-founded by Ellie Goulding” and grew out of her own routine: she says she discovered functional mushrooms almost a decade ago. The brand went live in May 2025 with three “Super Blends”, each sold as a 30-cup pouch:

  • Arabica Coffee + Mushroom Super Blend: 100% Arabica coffee with lion’s mane and cordyceps, plus maca root, B vitamins and seaweed kelp, sold “for a state of energy and focus”.
  • Matcha + Mushroom Super Blend: Japanese matcha with lion’s mane and cordyceps, pitched as the lower-caffeine option.
  • Cacao + Mushroom Super Blend: reduced-fat cocoa with reishi and tremella, plus magnesium, L-glycine and lemon balm, sold for “calm and beauty” and described as the “non-caffeinated” option in the brand’s FAQ.

Each serving is a 7g scoop whisked with hot water and milk, and the brand says each blend contains 1,000mg of functional mushrooms per serving. Everything is vegan and gluten-free, according to everystate.

The buzz comes from two places. First, the celebrity founder, which got everystate into national newspapers and magazines at launch. Second, retail: The Checkout reported on 17 September 2026 that everystate had launched in 64 Boots stores with three 7-Day Ritual Packs, a smaller trial format created for the listing after talks with Boots began in April.

Our take: lovely ritual, expensive coffee, unproven extras

The price. On 9 October 2026, the coffee product page shows £45 for a one-off 30-cup pouch, or £36 on “subscribe and save”. That is £1.50 a cup one-off (the page itself says £1.60) and £1.20 a cup on subscription. For a coffee you make yourself at home, that is a premium price: you are paying for the mushrooms, vitamins and brand, not the coffee.

The claims. everystate’s wording is careful: lion’s mane “supports focus and clarity”, cordyceps “supports endurance”. We have not tested the products, and we found no published clinical trial on everystate’s own blends. Research on functional mushrooms in humans is still limited, so treat these as the brand’s promises, not proven effects. Where the blends do contain added vitamins (B vitamins, magnesium), any benefit comes with the usual small print about a varied diet. If you are pregnant, on medication or already take supplements, check with a pharmacist first: the FAQ itself says not to exceed two servings a day.

The celebrity effect. A famous founder sells the first pouch. The second pouch is sold by taste and habit. The everystate site shows customer reviews on each product page, but we could not check independent review sites from our desk, so we cannot tell you yet how repeat customers rate it.

Small inconsistencies. The FAQ promises subscribers “10% off every month”, while the product page says “save 20%” (£36 instead of £45). The starter kit is advertised as “worth £100”, but the items listed on the page (cup £25, scoop £8, whisk £25, sachets £5, plus 20% off the pouch) add up to less than that. None of this is a scandal, but it is the kind of thing a fast-growing brand should tidy up.

It will suit you if you already spend money on a morning ritual, like the idea of matcha or cacao with extras, and want a cosy, Instagram-friendly routine. Try a 7-Day Ritual Pack in Boots first rather than subscribing straight away. If instead you simply want great coffee delivered, a classic coffee subscription will give you more cups for your money.
