Degustabox – December 2017

It’s the last Degustabox of the year, and it’s a good one! For those of you who are new to Degustabox, they’re a monthly food and drink subscription box that are perfect for families and students as they offer fantastic value for money. They’re also a brilliant way to try out new products that have only just emerged in the supermarkets, and the variety that you’ll receive should have something to suit everyone’s tastes and preferences.

I must admit that I was expecting more of a Christmas themed box this time around, but I’m still very happy with the contents which you can find out more about below, so let’s get stuck in!

Willie’s Cacao Sea Salt Caramel Black Pearls (RRP £6.59)

The star of this month’s box, without a doubt, is this luxury box of chocolates from Willie’s Cacao, who I’ve bought many products from in the past. Willie’s Cacao is all about sourcing the finest quality cacao from around the world, and these Sea Salt Caramel Black Pearls are the most heavenly combination of caramel and 70% dark chocolate imaginable. Amazing! You may have received a different flavour in your box called Passion Fruit Caramel Milk Pearls, which sounds equally as tempting.

Planters Nut-rition Energy Mix and Protein Mix (RRP £1.29 each)

Planters were featured in last month’s box which I reviewed here, so I was pleased to see a different variety from them in the shape of these smaller snack bags. There’s an Energy Mix with Chocolate covered Honeycomb, Brazil Nuts, Walnuts and Peanuts, and a Protein Mix that contains Peanuts, Cashew Nuts and Almonds. Perfect for gym bags as a post-workout treat.

Star Wars Popchips Galactic Puffs in Sour Cream & Onion (RRP £1.99)

Star Wars mania is well and truly upon us and I imagine a lot of people (both kids and adults!) will enjoy these fun Galactic Puffs from Popchips! They come in really cool Star Wars themed shapes and there are two different flavours that you could receive in your box this month; this one, Sour Cream & Onion, or Barbeque. Yum!

Coldpress Valencia Orange Juice (RRP £1.50)

Moving onto the drinks, I found a small bottle of Coldpress Valencia Orange Juice which is made using only cold pressure, instead of being heat pasteurised. This helps to keep more of the essential vitamins and nutrients in the juice as these are often damaged by the heat, so this a great option if you’re looking for a healthier juice drink to have with your lunch or when you’re on the go.

Sleep Well Vanilla Milk Drink (RRP £1.75)

One of the most interesting products is this Sleep Well Vanilla Milk that uses a blend of Jersey Milk with Honey and Valerian, to help you relax and sleep. You can enjoy it hot or cold, and it’s recommended that you drink it 30 minutes before bedtime, so I’m looking forward to trying it as I’m a terrible sleeper!

Robinsons Fruit Creations & Barley in Pear, Blackcurrant & Cherry (RRP £1.99)

New from Robinsons are these Fruit Creations that contain twice as much fruit as regular fruit squash drinks and they come in a range of ‘extra fruity’ flavours. We don’t really drink much squash in my house, but I was curious to try it and it’s definitely nicer than most squashes that I’ve tasted, plus it has no added sugar.

Mary Berry’s Lemon & Mustard Seed Vinaigrette (RRP £2.99)

I had no idea that Mary Berry had her own range of foods, so I’m guessing that this might be a brand new launch?! This is her classic Lemon & Mustard Seed Vinaigrette which is super tasty and works well on a number of dishes including salads, pasta, fish and potatoes. Nice one Mary!

Ryvita Rye Cakes in Lightly Salted (RRP £1.39)

New from Ryvita are these Lightly Salted Rye Cakes that are made with popped Wholegrain Rye for a healthier snack alternative. Each cake comes in at just 23 calories each, and they’re high in fibre and low in fat. You can top these with just about anything – I quite like them with a bit of cottage cheese for a quick and easy snack.

Candy Kittens Gourmet Sweets in Sour Watermelon (RRP £3)

Sadly I couldn’t eat these as they contain gelatine which is such a shame as I know Candy Kittens do some amazing vegetarian-friendly sweets! Nevertheless, my housemates were more than happy to devour them and they didn’t last long at all!

Taking The Pea Smoked Ham Flavour (RRP £1.50)

I’ve had these before and they’re really good. Taking The Pea are crunchy, savoury roasted peas that are coated in flavouring for a healthier snack. They contain more protein than crisps and less fat than nuts, so are ideal for those who are watching their weight or just cutting down. Best of all, the Smoked Ham flavour is suitable for vegetarians (and vegans!) – yay!

San Miguel 0.0% Alcohol-Free Beer (RRP £3)

I originally thought it was a little strange to include a non-alcoholic beer in a December box, but then I got to thinking about how this would be a great drink for a designated driver to enjoy instead of a juice or soft drink, so I’ll be saving it for that purpose over this festive season.

Lift Matcha Instant Green Tea (free sample)

The last drink product is a tub of Lift Matcha Instant Green Tea which comes prepared in individually portioned sticks for ultra convenience. I enjoy drinking a cup of Matcha every now and then, and these ones are so easy to make as you only need to add hot water and that’s it.

Degustabox Tote Bag

As an extra freebie this month, Degustabox have included this handy cotton tote bag to take on your next shopping trip!
