The Cocoa & Roast Club – October 2017

Chocolate and coffee have got to be two of life’s little luxuries, and the two combined are simply a match made in heaven. The Cocoa & Roast Club know this too, which is why their monthly subscription box contains a specially selected range of artisan coffee and fine luxury chocolate. They source all of their products from only fairtrade suppliers, which helps small companies here in the UK, and the overseas communities who harvest the raw ingredients, so everyone gets a good deal. I think this is fantastic and I wish there were more subscription boxes with these kinds of ethics.

Every month, The Cocoa & Roast Club will send you a large resealable pouch bag of artisan coffee which are sourced from micro-roasteries around the UK, and you’ll also receive two bars of luxury chocolate. Everything was wrapped beautifully inside the box in tissue paper, so this would make a lovely gift or treat for yourself.

When October’s box arrived this week, I couldn’t wait to open it, and I was subsequently greeted with the most mouthwatering scent of fresh coffee, mmmm! Let’s see what’s inside, shall we?

La Pastora Cafetiere

This month’s choice of coffee has been produced by La Pastora who have over 50 years of experience in the coffee making business. The traditional company works with the surrounding communities in Los Santos, Tarrazu in Costa Rica, an area that is famed for its fine coffee all over the world. This blend contains a variety of Arabica Caturra and Catuai coffee beans, and it tastes incredible. It has a strong body with a deliciously sweet and nutty scent. Flavour-wise, it’s predominately chocolatey with hints of tropical citrus fruits – amazing! I would definitely purchase this blend again.

Cocoa Ooze Cookie White and Milk Chocolate Bar

Moving onto the chocolate, I found two bars from Cocoa Ooze which was founded in Aberdeen back in 2008 by 17-year-old Jamie Hutchinson. He uses local ingredients and the company are proud to source only sustainable cocoa through the World Cocoa Foundation. His passion for creative chocolate led him to develop a range of delectable flavours, including this Cookie White and Milk Chocolate Bar which features a thick base of White Chocolate, a swirl of Milk Chocolate throughout and is finished off with a topping of Chocolate Cookie pieces. Insanely good, if a little bit sickly!

Cocoa Ooze Fruit & Nut Milk Chocolate Bar

The second bar from Cocoa Ooze was even more scrumptious. Their Fruit & Nut Milk Chocolate has a thick creamy Milk Chocolate base that’s studded with plump and juicy raisins, and generously topped with flaked almonds. It was difficult not to eat the whole bar in a day, so I’ve been attempting to restrain myself by breaking off small chunks at a time. Needless to say though, it’s nearly all gone!

Our score: 9.8/ 10

I knew this box was going to be good, but I hadn't anticipated just how good it was going to be! I would love to receive a subscription like this for Christmas - are you listening Santa?!
