  • Quarterly 230g soy candle and skincare surprise, from £39 a box
  • From £39

Canopy Seasonal Candle Subscription is a quarterly box from Canopy Beauty, a UK candle and skincare brand run by Orta Skincare Ltd. Every three months you get a hand-poured 230g soy wax candle in that season’s scent, a surprise Canopy skincare or self-care item, a scent card and a recyclable gift box. The brand’s subscription page lists the price as £39 every three months with free UK delivery and says each box is worth over £70 at retail. Its terms of service agree on £39 and give a minimum value of £90 RRP, but its product page and the selling-plan name show £49, so check the figure at checkout before you subscribe. It is a pretty, giftable box with a fair price for a full-size candle, but the value claim comes from the brand alone. The subscription opened in early November. Our news story on the Canopy subscription covers the launch and the two prices.

Canopy Seasonal Candle Subscription price and plan

Detail What the brand says
Price on the subscription page and in the terms £39 every 3 months, with free UK standard delivery
Price on the product page and in the selling-plan name £49 every 3 months
Boxes a year Four, one at the start of each season
Candle 230g, hand poured in the UK, 100% soy wax, up to 50 hours of burn time
Surprise A Canopy skincare or self-care gift in every box
Stated value Over £70 on the subscription page, a £90 RRP minimum in the terms and on the product page
Billing Quarterly, taken 7 days before the seasonal dispatch
Delivery UK only, free standard delivery

The two prices are the main thing to watch. When we checked, the subscription page and the terms of service said £39, while the product page, which carries the quarterly subscription option, and the selling-plan name (“Quarterly Subscription £49”) said £49. We have used £39 as the headline because it is the price on the page that explains the plan and in the terms, but the checkout figure is the one that counts. At either price delivery is included.

What is in a Canopy box

The brand describes a six part package for every box:

  • A full-size seasonal candle: limited edition, hand poured, 230g, in a recyclable jar. Canopy says the wax is biodegradable and paraffin-free, and that the ingredients are vegan and cruelty free.
  • A seasonal surprise: a Canopy skincare or self-care item. You do not choose it.
  • A gift box: hand wrapped and recyclable, so it works as a present without extra wrapping.
  • A scent card: a short note that links the season’s fragrance to a self-care routine.
  • Wellbeing points: rewards added to your account with every box, to spend on Canopy products.
  • A rainforest donation: Canopy says it gives £1 to the charity Rainforest Concern for every box it dispatches.

The brand says each season’s candle is a limited edition that is never repeated. If a box sells out, subscribers go on a waitlist for the next release. There is also an introductory offer at the time of writing: a Canopy gift bag with every first subscription box, marked with an asterisk, so read the small print.

Is the Canopy box really worth over £70?

The only itemised example on the brand’s site is a summer edition, still shown on the product page. It lists a First Light candle at £42, a Retinal Ritual 20ml treatment at £38 and a Nocturnal Renewal mask at £58, which adds up to £138 at Canopy’s own prices. Two points follow. First, those are Canopy’s list prices, not an independent valuation, and few buyers would pay full price for all three. Second, the example has three products while the subscription page promises a candle plus one gift, so it is not a clean guide to what a typical box holds.

The candle alone is listed at £42 in that example, which is more than the £39 plan price. That makes the candle the better argument for subscribing, with the skincare gift as a bonus. At £49 the sums are tighter but still reasonable if you would buy a Canopy candle anyway. If you would not, treat the “worth over £70” line as marketing and judge the box on the candle and on whether you like the brand.

How the Canopy subscription works

You subscribe once and the box arrives at the start of each season: winter, spring, summer and autumn. Payment is taken every three months, 7 days before dispatch. You can pause or skip a season from your Canopy account dashboard. To cancel, do so before your next billing date. If billing has already been processed, the cancellation applies to the following season, so the box already paid for will still come. Gift subscriptions are available, and recipients get boxes on the same schedule.

Delivery, returns and cancelling

Canopy ships within the UK only, and the brand says candles are hand poured, wrapped and dispatched in the UK. Standard delivery on the subscription is free. The subscription terms give you 14 days from receiving your first box to cancel for a refund, as long as the box is unopened and in resalable condition. Used or opened candles and skincare cannot be returned. If an item arrives damaged you must tell Canopy within 14 days of delivery, with photos, and it will arrange a replacement or refund. The brand’s general delivery and returns page offers a longer 30 day window for ordinary shop purchases, which does not appear to apply to the subscription, so rely on the subscription terms. You can contact the brand at [email protected].

Who Canopy is

Canopy Beauty is a brand of Orta Skincare Ltd, a UK company that makes soy candles and plant-based skincare. It should not be confused with Canopy Plants, a different business. The candles are made in small batches in the UK, and the brand highlights vegan and cruelty-free ingredients and recyclable packaging. The subscription is new, so there is no long track record of boxes or customer service to judge yet.

Is Canopy Seasonal Candle Subscription worth it?

Our view: it is a good gift and a decent treat if you already like scented candles. A full-size 230g soy candle plus a skincare item for £39 every three months is fair, and four boxes a year is a gentle rhythm compared with a monthly commitment. The quarterly billing and the flexible skip and cancel rules are fair too.

The weaknesses are the conflicting prices and values on the brand’s own pages, the surprise item that you cannot choose, and the fact that your skincare may not suit your skin. Check the price at checkout, put the billing dates in your diary, and cancel before the billing date if you want to skip a season. If you want to try the fragrance first, buy a single Canopy candle from the shop before you subscribe.

Pros

  • A full-size 230g hand-poured soy candle in every box
  • Only four deliveries a year, with free UK delivery
  • A skincare or self-care surprise and a scent card in the gift box
  • Skip, pause or cancel from your account before the next billing date
  • Vegan and cruelty-free ingredients and recyclable packaging

Cons

  • The brand shows two prices (£39 and £49) and two stated values (over £70 and over £90)
  • The value claim is the brand’s own RRP, not an independent figure
  • You cannot choose the candle scent or the surprise item
  • If billing has been taken, cancelling only applies from the next season
  • A new subscription with no long track record
