Birchbox – February 2017: Express Yourself

This month’s Birchbox was partnered with the British stationery brand Papier, who designed the beautiful packaging. Seriously… how beautiful is this box!? It is just oh so instagram worthy!

First up in my box this month was the Bright Up Your Life Eyeshadow Trio in Champagne Mocha by POP Beauty. With three shades to create the perfect smokey eye, this looked like a very handy little trio. I was, however, slightly disappointed that the eyeshadows weren’t better pigmented – you had to apply a lot of shadow to build up depth and colour. I think the trio would be perfect if you wanted a subtle smokey eye, but it definitely won’t be my go to for my standard dramatic eye makeup.

I’ve been a big fan of the Spectrum Collections makeup brushes for a while now, so as you can imagine, my face lit up when I saw a Marbelous C06 Eye Contour Brush in this month’s box! It is so fluffy and soft, with a beautifully tapered tip which makes the brush extremely mutifunctional – you can use it for blending or, my favourite way to use it – in your crease!

I’m pretty sure Birchbox knows me as a person or something, because the next product seemed like it was just made for me! The SHOW Beauty Premiere Dry Shampoo comes in the cutest and prettiest little can, yet still manages to pack a punch. It’s your stereotypical dry shampoo – shake it, spray it on your hair, rub it in and brush it out. It’s like the more popular brand of dry shampoo Batiste… but better. It’s pretty strong, meaning you only need a few quick sprays to de-grease a whole mop of greasy hair, but that also means it’s easy to accidentally look like you’ve stepped out of a flour factory. The little travel size can is so handy – this has been a saviour in my handbag a couple of times already!

We were lucky enough to get not one but TWO hair treats in this month’s box! I love a good dry conditioning spray, but must admit that I’ve been using the same brand forever. It’s about time I had a change! The Beaver Professional Daily Moisture Conditioning Spray does exactly what it says on the bottle – detangles, smoothes and adds a bit of extra moisture to dry ends.  I can definitely tell a difference in my hair when I’ve washed it without using this after – its drier, more brittle and frizzy. When I do use it, however, my hair is shinier, smoother and it makes brushing any knots out SO much easier.

I’ve saved my favourite to last… the Keeome Hydration Mask Therapy was the skincare treat this month. Anyone who knows anything about beauty should know that when it comes to all things skincare, Korea is at the top of their game, so it’s no surprise that this sheet mask was a Korean product! The face mask is meant to revitalise your skin in minutes,

At first, my impressions of the mask were not very positive – it struggled to fit to the contours of my face – I’ve got a rather large face/head and it was even too big for me. I battled on, smoothed it to my face as best I could and then laid down for the 25 minutes. It felt refreshing, cold and soothing on the skin, and the 25 minutes flew by as I relaxed. Afterwards, I massaged some remaining serum into my skin, before rinsing it all off with warm water. Then it was time for the real test – did my skin feel any different? Well…. all I can say is… wow. My skin has honestly never felt so smooth, hydrated, soft and just…. ah. I couldn’t stop stroking my cheeks – they were like fluffy clouds! My skin also felt tighter and more supple. I would highly recommend this face mask – it really did up the face mask game!

Our score: 9.4/ 10

Overall, this box had some standout products that really made me feel like Birchbox has upped their game this month. With a makeup brush and a face mask that actually says what it promises to do, what more could you want from a beauty box?!
