YumeTwins – Japanese Kawaii November 2018

YumeTwins is a monthly box of Japanese kawaii products from Tokyo. It is part of the TokyoTreat subscription box group which also includes TokyoTreat and nomakenolife. Each box contains 6 – 8 kawaii items including plushies and lifestyle goods plus premium anime brands.

They have one-, three-, six-, and 12-month subscriptions costing $35.00, $33.50, $32.00, and $31.50 per month respectively (from around £25).

The box looks really cute, and there’s room for plenty of goodies!

This month’s theme is Twinkling Transformation. We should expect to see some interesting items for this theme!

Here’s the menu booklet. Sailor Moon is a featured character this month, an ordinary girl who magically transforms into a superhero at night.

There’s a full contents list, plus details of the featured item.

Here’s the Sailor Moon item, a Sailor Moon Cleaning Cloth. It’s perfect for cleaning glasses and screens. You can keep it in the cute packaging, with the cloth as the skirt, or take it out. The cloth itself is decorated too. This is Sailor Jupiter, one of four characters options from the Sailor Moon universe.

This is the featured item, a Kawaii Changing Pouch. That makes it sound a bit like a changing bag for a baby, but it just means that it’s a zippered pouch with a design that changes. It uses those reversible sequins that are everywhere right now.

Flip the sequins with your hand and you get this pattern! The My Melody pattern transforms into her friendly rival, Kuromi. It’s one of six designs.

This month’s plushie is a Costume Pet Plushie. This cute pug, one of ten variations, is wearing a little costume.

Pull up his hood and he’s wearing a chick costume!

This is a Sumikko Gurashi Peg Set. Three little wooden pegs to hold notes, lists, or whatever you like.

The labelling is slightly misleading! It’s not actually a thing for cleaning sheep. It’s a little microfibre cleaning plushie sheep and contains bamboo charcoal, which apparently has deodorizing properties. Very cute, and handy to keep on a desk or in a car.

Finally, a Kawaii Mini Memo Pad. This is one of four versions. Yeast Ken is a dog who is also a loaf of bread! Crazy but cute.

There are several different designs on the pages.

This theme is very cleverly done. Four out of the six items are definitely transformation-related, and the other two (the sheep and the pegs) are cute as they are.

I really like the plush, it’s so clever to have a little hood on it.

The Sailor Moon cleaning cloth will definitely be useful and I suspect it will end up in my glasses case.

The standout item this month is definitely the sequin pouch. Flip sequins are incredibly popular right now, and this one looks really cool. It could be used as a pencil case or even a purse, and it’s super-cute!

Value is always difficult to judge, as all items come from Japan and are often unavailable elsewhere. Imported they tend to be very expensive. I found the Sailor Moon cloth for just under £5, and a similar set of wooden pegs for £6, though these prices don’t include shipping. I’ve got no doubt the pouch would be pricey, as for comparison a non-sequin pouch of a similar type costs around £15 from a UK kawaii importer.

I’m always confident that YumeTwins is great value for money, and does a great line in Japanese cuteness!
