ToucanBox is an arts & crafts subscription service for children aged 3-8 designed to keep their little hands busy and their curious minds racing through a selection of exciting activities. Each letterbox-friendly box (personalised with your child’s name) contains two activity packs full of inspiration and materials, a colourful magazine and a small surprise gift. This month Penny received a magnet and also a wall planner with stickers.
TB1 Boogie Bot
Contents: wooden template, disco ball, silver cord, PVA glue, split pins, glue dots and pre-cut robot parts and decorations.
Our first activity was to build a moveable robot puppet with shimmery buttons and disco lights. The activity is designed to improve your child’s construction skills and develop their hand-eye coordination.
All the templates were precut and although there was some grown-up assistance needed it was minimal and there was hardly any mess to tidy up afterward. The pack contained glue dots and very detailed instructions on where to put them. The use of multicolored slipt pins allowed the arms, legs and buttons to move. There’s also a Spotify code to access a disco playlist and Penny loved wiggling the bar and watching TB1 do the cyborg shimmy.
Giraffe Spy Periscope
Contents: giraffe neck template, giraffe head templates, paint, PVA glue, mirrors, suede cord, pom poms, googly eyes and glue dots.
The second activity is designed to teach your child about light and reflection. Penny assembled the googly-eyed giraffe with minimal support. I really appreciate that there were markers to help children position the glue dots plus additional pom poms and googly eyes. She loved decorating the giraffe with finger-painted spots and sticking concealed secret mirrors inside. Unfortunately, we stuck our giraffe’s head on the wrong way but she still adores it. This activity inspired hours of imaginative play. Who doesn’t want to be a spy giraffe?
