Toppbox – June 2018

Toppbox is a monthly box of men’s grooming supplies. It costs £19 per month plus £3.35 p+p, but the box contents will always be a considerably higher value.

I love skincare products, but for this I have enlisted my lovely husband, Big C, to try out the items and give his considered opinion!

The box comes safely in a jiffy bag, padded with tissue, so everything is well parceled up.

There’s the menu card on top, plus a card for one of the products.

The menu give plenty of details of the contents, plus RRPs. I do check all the RRPs too!

This is a nice big tube of Opitat The Hungover Potent Peppermint Coffee Scrub. It contains real coffee grounds, which is a great way of recycling them and also for giving you extra caffeine! The minty scent is great for waking you up as well. The instructions state to use 2 – 3 times a week.

Another scrub here, this time Monuskin for Men Face Scrub. The ingredients of this one are very impressive, and include Papaya Enzymes and Diatomaceous Earth, which smooth and brighten the skin. This one is also for use 2 – 3 times per week.

This little jar is Fit Pit Peppermint Deodorant, an all-natural  and organic deodorant. You apply a small amount to the underarms, and it moisturises as well as prevents smell.

This is quite an unusual inclusion – Henri Lloyd Tinted Moisturiser for Men SPF 15.  Apparently it is designed to suit all skin shades, and offers a smoothing tint along with hydration and protection from the sun.

One for the bearded man (like Big C!) is Seven Potions Woodland Harmony Beard Shampoo. This has a delicious smell, and contains  an essential oil blend to condition the beard as well as taking of care your skin.

Finally, we have an accessory, an exclusive Howard Matthews Co. Black Knitted Tie. It’s made from polyester but feels lovely and soft, and is stylishly thin.

The value of this box is always excellent. According to the RRPs (I always check) you’re getting amazing value for money.

There are two similar items in the box – the coffee scrub and the face scrub. The coffe scrub doesn’t actually say if it’s for your face or body, but as it’s rather a big tube I’m going to assume it’s for the body. It also makes more sense as I think its unlikely Toppbox would include two such similar items.

Big C hasn’t tried the deodorant yet, but I have. It wasn’t a particularly hot day when I used it, but it did certainly seem to be effective!

The one item he didn’t like was the tinted moisturizer. I have to say that I think this is a pretty unusual thing to include. I love the SPF aspect of it, but I’m not sure how many men would be happy to wear anything tinted. To be honest, I don’t even wear tinted moisturizer myself. Big C tried it on his hands and said ‘no way’ as it definitely has a colour to it! It’s a shame, because I thought it was important that Toppbox included an SPF product as it’s summer and it’s getting sunny. That being said, Big C may be in the minority, and most other guys who got this box were thrilled. This is just his (and my) opinion.

But the rest is fantastic! The beard shampoo and the tie are the standout items for Big C, he loves them both. I like the deodorant very much, though I might not use it in high summer! But it’s great to have what seems like an effective natural option. We’ll both use the scrubs as well, especially the minty coffee one, which is great first thing in the morning.

Our score: 9.0/ 10

Another great (and slightly daring!) selection with a fantastic bonus tie!
