We were delivered a new artisan box in bubble wrap. Very efficient for protecting the box. Although the last box I received was sent without the wrap. So my guess is that they used the bubble wrap to secure the box as it was a really full one!
Anyways this gift box was awesome! This subscription box contains products from the Uttar Pradesh region of India. (In red on the map above).
Here is the content:
– Pendant with a semi-precious stone called Shazar. Approx value: US$ 35.00.
Shazar is a unique stone available only in Banda region of Uttar Pradesh. The stone was discovered around 400 years ago.
The stone has a tree painted on it. It turns out that it is not a painting. Actually the leafy patterns are created by entrapped fossils of fungus between two layers of stones. Soooo COOOOOOOOL! Love it. During the process, fungus secretes some acid, which makes the stones translucent and acts as an inorganic glue to fuse the stone layers. Even cooler!
– Zardozi embroidered Jewelry box. US$ 8.00
Zardozi is a form of embroidery that came to India from Persia. The box has magnificent white, rose and red pearls and amazing embroideries on it.
So this beautiful jewelry box with Zardozi work on brocade fabric is one of the traditional, classy, premium, & unique hand crafted art form from Uttar Pradesh.
– Brass Bowl with hand crafted Minakari work. US$ 15.00
This brass bowl is so beautiful. I couldn’t even believe it was worth $15. The details on the bowl are really impressive. This bowl apparently comes from the Moradabad region. This bowl will be perfect as a decorative piece in the living room.
– Silk Brocade Cushion Cover. US$ 7.00
This cushion cover was really pretty with amazing gold colored brocades. The only thing is that it would have been really nice to have two of them.
– Natural Lavender Aroma Oil. US$ 15.00
This lavender oil was apparently extracted from the flowers of the lavender plant. The health benefits of lavender essential oil include its ability to eliminate nervous tension, relieve pain, disinfect the scalp and skin, enhance blood circulation and treat respiratory problems. To use it put 5 to 10 drops to your bath. Definitely worth a try next time I take a bath.
Overall this box was just amazing. I loved everything in it. The discovery process of a region by the artisanal products is fabulous. And at $42 (£28) it is a bargain. Plus delivery is free.
