nomakenolife – nmnl Japanese Beauty – January 2018
nomakenolife is a monthly subscription box of Japanese cosmetics and beauty products. Japanese women take their skincare very seriously, and their beauty products are superb quality. They are also very big on products which contain natural ingredients, including collagen, and avoiding harsh chemicals. They have one-, three-, six-, and 12-month subscriptions costing $29.99, $29.00, $28.33, and $27.50 per month respectively. At current exchange rates this is £22.18, £21.45, £20.95, and £20.34. Shipping is free.nmnl is part of the TokyoTreat group, who also produce TokyoTreat, a lovely box of Japanese snacks, and YumeTwins, an equally lovely box of kawaii Japanese goodies. Here is their shipping box. I love their branding; it’s simple but striking, and the box itself is nice and robust. Here’s the menu booklet. The listing includes ingredients and usage instructions where necessary! This Beauty World Two-In-One Cool Glitter is a fun makeup item.It contains a clear gloss and a little bottle of glitter. You mix the two together and you can use it on eyes, cheeks, and lips. There was either a blue or pink version; I got the blue!Fiancee Fragrance Body Powder has a nice sweet smell. According to the booklet it’s shampoo scented. It contains SPF 23, which protects your skin, and adds a nice fresh scent! This month’s beauty too is very useful: a Mapepe Eyelash curler. There is also the very thoughtful addition of replacement buffers, which are extremely handy!Honeil is a brand that has been included in a previous box, and this Honeil Cleansing Oil is even nicer than the last lotion from that brand. It has a handy pump dispenser, is soft and gentle on your skin, and even removes waterproof mascara! Finally, two lovely sheet masks! The MochiPuru Strawberry Mask helps to smooth and moisturize your skin, and the Refresh Choco Mint Mask tightens and refreshes the skin.I’m really happy to get two more sheet masks! I think the strawberry one is especially good at this time of year, as the cold weather always dries out my skin. The cleansing oil is also excellent. My skin is quite dry, so this works very well for me. I also really like the pump dispenser, so much easier than a bottle!Nomakenolife often include some crazy makeup, which while fun, isn’t quite my thing. The glitter eyeshadow actually works nicely, but I suspect it’ll be joining a couple of other things in the dressup box! The body powder smells nice, but I’m not quite sure how I’d use it. It might be nice in the summer to stop shiny legs! The eyelash curler is a very useful tool. I’ve never actually owned one, mainly because I find them slightly alarming! Also, I’m fortunate to have eyelashes that curl on their own, so I’ve never needed one. However it’s a useful tool to add to my kit, and I’m very impressed that spare pads were included. That’s a very thoughtful addition. Now to value. As these are all Japanese brands it’s often very difficult to find prices on these, so I’m not going to do an individual breakdown. I will say that I’ve never had a box that wasn’t good value for money.I did find the body powder on a site that ships from Japan (for $4) for £10.37. As for the rest, they can’t easily be found on western-oriented Google, though I’m sure if I was in Japan it’d be much easier to trac them down!I’m always confident that nomakenolife provide lovely quality skincare items, and I’ve always enjoyed using them. My skin, which can be rather dry and sensitive, has never had any problem with any of their products. I’d like to see some more things for looking after skin in the cold weather, and I’d really like some more face wash! But otherwise I’m pretty happy with this box.
