MyGeekBox October 2014

MyGeekBox October 2014

Woo! Another geek box for the UK! This box is UK based and offers a different theme every month including a limited edition t-shirt for only £14.99 :) The boxes are sent out around 15th and 20th every month and are packed with goodies for all ages.

The box is a simple white box with no markings whatsoever on. I’d ordered LootCrate around the same time and if it wasn’t for LootCrate with their logo on box I wouldn’t have had a clue who had sent this one. Definitely something to look into mygeekbox. The delivery was a couple of days and I have to say the box was a good size too! Around twice the size of a LootCrate box.

The contents of this huge box were in one word – awesome!

The theme as you’ll probably guess is Retro and this box had everything.

imageContents:

  • Large plush talking pacman
  • Pop rocks popping candy
  • The Amazing Spider-Man small notebook
  • Space Invaders badges/buttons
  • A retro Batman poster

I have to say I loved all of the items, and couldn’t pick a favourite. My daughters wanted the plush and my husband, the poster. This really had something for everyone!
The Talking Pacman Plush is lovely and soft, great quality, and according to amazon not cheap (around £10, so you’ve almost paid for your box with one toy!) You simply press Pacman’s tummy to have him play the original pacman noise. It certainly brought back memories of the old arcade game and beeps. Great for the kids to play with, for putting in a display, or in my case guarding my computer desk when I’m not playing WoW.
Pop Rocks popping candy also brought back childhood memories. If you’re as old as I am, or older you’ll appreciate how these tasted and how if taken with different drinks, gave different effects. Those were the days. Haven’t seen these in shops for a while so it was a welcome addition in my box :)
The notebook has a retro Amazing Spider-Man design on and is good quality too. Great for shopping lists, writing game codes or anything else you can think of.
The Space Invaders badges/buttons are great too. My husband has them proudly displayed on his gym bag and loves how vibrant the designs are. Also great quality – he has had them out in rain and shine going to the gym and so far no fading or tears like cheaper ones out there.
Last but not least is the Batman poster. It features a design which will appeal to all with it’s retro comics on the ends and the large retro Batman logo in the centre. Any DC or Batman fan would love this. I think it’d look even better mounted. It has been printed on a thick poster paper so will last a while if looked after. I’ll have to keep my girls away from this one!

Conclusion: this is a great box, definitely value for money. The box itself is a little disappointing as there is no logo to show who sent it. I know I get more excited knowing which company sent it if I already know the theme etc. I feel this maybe just a starter issue as they’ve not long started up so may not have gotten around to the design of the box. The contents more than make up for this though so I’m willing to forgive them.

The products are great quality and appeal to a varied audience which you don’t always find in other geek boxes out there. I look forward to seeing future boxes mygeekbox has to offer. The box was definitely a blast from the past and I loved it. Well done mygeekbox!
