Music Crate – October 2016

Music has always played a huge part in my life, and I’m the proud owner of a large CD collection which features albums that I’ve bought over the years, as well as those that have been gifted to me by friends and family. Whilst I love watching music videos on Youtube, I’m still very much a physical media kinda gal, and any MP3s on my iPhone have been ripped directly from CDs, rather than downloaded from iTunes etc. There’s just something about holding a brand new album in your hands and flicking through the booklet that really helps me to get into the band more, and I really enjoy spending time sitting in my bedroom, browsing my CDs to find something to play and often rediscovering bands that I haven’t listened to in a long time, in the process.

As well as my passion for CDs, I also love band t-shirts and judging by the variety of band tees you can now pick up in places like HMV, I’m guessing I’m not alone. It comes as no surprise then for me to discover Music Crate, a monthly subscription box aimed at music fans who truly appreciate physical media and official band merchandise.

So every month, Music Crate sends subscribers a box which features two well known/established bands in the Rock genre. October’s box featured classic rock legends AC/DC, and contemporary indie rock favourites, Coldplay. The bright orange coloured box itself is sturdy and compact, and everything was well packaged within.IMG_7811IMG_7812Inside the October Music Crate box, I received:-

AC/DC Logo keyring

I’m a big AC/DC fan as both of my parents loved them and constantly played their vinyls when I was younger, so they were one of those awesome classic rock bands that I had the pleasure of growing up with. I’m really happy with the CD as it’s the remastered version of the original 1977 album – I have the original but never got around to buying this one so I love the fact that it completes my AC/DC collection! The t-shirt is also really cool and fits perfectly, and the metal logo keyring is a great extra item to have. As mentioned earlier, everything in Music Crate is official band merchandise so you know that you’re getting high-quality products every month.IMG_7815 IMG_7818Coldplay Tote Bag

Coldplay Pin Badge

Coldplay are one of those bands that I’ve always liked, and a band that I remember fondly from when I was at college. I haven’t listened to any of their new stuff in a long time, so I’ve been enjoying checking out their last album, A Head Full Of Dreams, which only came out last year. The tote bag is great quality and a good size for carrying books and folders in, and I love the pin badge which features the artwork from their album, X & Y.

Music Crate also offers other different subscription options, so if you only want CDs, or only want a T-shirt, you can choose which one you’d prefer. Obviously, with any subscription box that doesn’t reveal its contents in advance, you run the risk of not liking the ‘surprise’, but I generally find that most rock fans like a lot of different bands, like I do, so it would be fun to open it up every month!

Our score: 9.4/ 10

Music Crate is a great idea for someone who enjoys a wide variety of rock music, and I really liked the pairing of having one classic and one contemporary band in this month's box.
