Mila and Pheebs – September/October 2017

Mila & Pheebs create stationary and activity boxes for children. They contain a mixture of stationary, crafts, stickers, and fun items, based around a different theme each month. It’s £10 per month plus £2.99 P&P.

While I love anything craft/stationary related, this particular subscription box is aimed at children. My six-year-old daughter Little C is crazy about stickers and arty creative things, so this is a perfect match for her.
This month’s theme is Under the Sea. I’m anticipating some fun marine-type goodies in thisbox.
The box is flat and fits through the mailbox. I’m always amazed at how much they manage to fit in!
The box menu is on the inside of the lid, if you want spoilers, and on top is the Mila and Pheebs newsletter.
This is a great little addition to the box. Jokes perfectly aimed at young children, fun facts, and things to try. The design is lovely too, lots of bright colours, and an easy-to-read font.
I can see some fun things in there! Coloured sand? And stickers. Love stickers.
And here they are! A lovely sheet of shiny holographic stickers, plus an assortment of those nice thick foam stickers. Perfect for creating your own sea life picture!
These are fun little dot pictures. There are lots of dot stickers, so you can use them for other projects as well.
This pencil is adorable. Look at the cute little dolphin eraser on the top!
Mila and Pheebs always include a couple of craft projects. This is a fun one, create your own notebook.
Naturally Little C decided to do this one right away!
There was a little notebook with a blank foam cover, and then foam stickers to create a picture.
And there it is! So cute, and perfect for the theme. As it happens, Little C is crazy about notebooks, so she was immensely pleased with this one.
Mila and Pheebs also include a couple of blank greetings cards to create. Look at the embossed wave pattern on the top one!
I love this idea, because I think it’s incredibly important for children to make cards for friends and loved ones.
These are a great way to use the stickers included.
Another regular inclusion, puzzles and colouring sheets.
This is the second craft project, and it’s really cool!
There are eight little pots of coloured sand, plus the picture sheet you see.
The picture sheet is actually self adhesive. You peel off the shapes of the picture (which are all pre cut) and add sand, which sticks to the sheet.
See? Lots of lovely bright colours!
The finished picture!
Finally, this gorgeous little whale eraser. Of course, it’s far to nice to use, so will be added to our growing collection of kawaii erasers!
I just love Mila and Pheebs boxes. They are cheerful and fun, and the themes are always neutral, so any child can enjoy them. You could use this for many things: a fancy party bag, to keep kids amused at a wedding, a stocking filler, or of course simply a monthly treat! The boxes would also be lovely to take away on holiday, as together with some colouring pens and blank paper you’ve got plenty here to keep children amused. Why not have them decorate the cards to send home? This month is the first time a slightly messy craft has been included, though it was dry mess rather than wet mess! While you might not want your kids sprinkling coloured sand around in the car, if you’re in one place it would still work very well for a long-haul flight or to brighten up a train journey.

The website says it’s aimed at kids from around six years old, but I reckon a four- or even three-year-old would have a lot of fun with this. Stickers and drawing suit practically any age! And even though the word games might be slightly beyond their skills, most kids are starting to look at letters and things at school, so they would still be a nice learning tool. Get hands-on folks!

Part of the point of a subscription box is that you are paying for someone else to do the work for you, and in this case it’s selecting and producing a lovely themed box of stationary. I do think it’s good value, not least because there are items that you can keep and use again and again.

As I said, this is great to have stashed away for a rainy day, especially round the school holidays (and half term’s not that far away!).

I don’t know about you, but there’s no way I have time to track down and organize something like this that brings little C a great deal of delight. These boxes are charming, reasonably priced, and offer fun, creativity, and even some sneaky educational value!
