Mila & Pheebs : August / September 2017

Mila & Pheebs create stationary and activity boxes for children. They contain a mixture of stationary, crafts, stickers, and fun items, based around a different theme each month. It’s £10 per month plus £2.99 P&P.

While I love anything craft/stationary related, this particular subscription box is aimed at children. My six-year-old daughter Little C is crazy about stickers and arty creative things, so this is a perfect match for her.
This month’s theme is Teddy Bears’ Picnic.
*Note: teddies not included!
It looks like we might be getting a bit more picnic weather now, so this bodes well for the end of summer!

The nicely-branded postage box is flat and fits perfectly thorough the mailbox.
Inside the box lid is a list of contents.  On top you can see their lovely newsletter.
The newsletter is a lot of fun. Nice colours, cute pictures, and easy-to read font. Little C always enjoys reading out the jokes and fun facts while I’m unpacking and photographing.
I didn’t know September 18th is the start of National Cupcake Week, but I’m very happy to find out!
Mila and Pheebs’ presentation is always beautiful. This is what you see under the wrapping.
Little C was keen to get some of her teddies involved in unpacking!
While this looks like a very convincing lollipop, it is in fact a pen.
Ooh, washi tape! I love this stuff. And you can see it has yummy cupcakes on it.

Mila and Pheebs always include craft kits. This one makes a cute little beaded ice cream keyring.
This one is to create your own teddy decorations.
Naturally Little C wanted to do this one right away.
Result! Teddies with picnic snacks.
And there were even a few extra stickers left over for more further creative play.
Next up, this cool bendy straw pencil. I have no idea how it’s possible to get the lead of a pencil to bend, but they work!
Remember the pink spotty paper bag? These were inside!
Some lovely teddy and food foam stickers, an ice cream paperclip, and the most gorgeous cake eraser.
Every Mila and Pheebs box contains a beautiful miniature eraser. We never use them as they are far too cute, so we have an ever-growing collection on a shelf in the living room!
One of my favourite things about the Mila and Pheebs box is their inclusion of blank greetings cards. I’m a huge fan of homemade cards, and I love adding these to my stash.
I especially like the one on the right embossed with kites!
The other regular items are a selection of colouring and puzzle pages.
The sheet underneath is a tablecloth pattern to colour in and then add your teddies and their goodies.
Everything in the box fits in perfectly with this month’s theme. Cupcakes, ice cream, snacks. It looks like the teddies are going to have a wonderful picnic!
The Mila and Pheebs boxes are such a joy to open. They are cheerful and fun, and I’m always amazed how they manage to come up with these entertaining (and pleasingly neutral) themes every month. The website says it’s aimed at kids from around six years old, but I reckon a four- or even three-year-old would have a lot of fun with this. Stickers and drawing can be enjoyed at almost any age. And even though the word games might be slightly beyond their skills, most kids are starting to look at letters and things at school, so they would still be a good learning tool. This is a lovely regular monthly treat for your little ones, but it has a lot of potential for other situations.

You could take it on holiday, and with the addition of colouring pens and extra paper (everyone should take these everywhere with children!) you’ve got a great assortment of distracting fun items with lots of room for additional creativity.

This would be a very superior party bag, and would also be perfect to keep young children entertained at a wedding.

My mother (who was in the garden when we were unpacking and photographing) suggested this would also be very useful for a child who was ill in bed. Brilliant idea.

Part of the point of a subscription box is that you are paying for someone else to do the work for you, and in this case it’s selecting and producing a lovely themed box of stationary. I do think it’s good value, not least because there are items that you can keep and use again and again.

This is great to have stashed away for a rainy day, and there have been rather too many of those this summer!

But never mind, whether indoors our out, teddy bears will have their picnic!
