Lootaku – July 2017: Valar Morghulis

Lootaku is a premium monthly subscription based service to fulfill everybody’s geeky addictions. Our box features full figure statues and Asia exclusives that you will not find in any other subscription box. We promise no filler or promotional items, and our values are always based on current cheapest prices on Amazon.

Prices and values on the Lootaku website are given US dollars. A one month subscription is $44.99 (three and six month subscriptions are cheaper). According to my currency converter this is £34.73. UK Shipping is $17.66 (£13.63). Slightly pricey, but this is a premium box. Also it’s coming a long way.

1-month subscription total: £48.36

This month’s theme has been hotly anticipated. With the new Game of Thrones season being aired, this month’s theme of Valar Morghulis is highly appropriate!

Even their box looks fantastical!

Well, I can see something that says Game of Thrones, but what is that big chunk of polystyrene?

Wow. Just wow. Look at this amazing replica!

This is, of course, the infamous Iron Throne.

This is a seriously substantial item.

It’s weighty and beautifully detailed.

(I can also say those points are sharp!)

I think this is one of the best ever items in a Lootaku box.

Next up, a dragon’s egg.

This comes with a little plastic stand so it can be balanced on its end for display.

There were three possible eggs. This one is Drogon.

This next item both cool and practical . It is, of course, the Hand of the King, in bottle opener form!

I can confirm it works.

This was the smallest item in the box.

The bag itself had a few pieces of polystyrene stuck to it, but it’s made from black velvet.

And inside, two coins.

These are replicas of the infamous Coin of the Faceless Man.

The detailing is excellent. You can see the motto ‘Valar morghulis’ which of course means ‘all men must die’.

Finally, an item which will be perfect at your next GoT party!

This is a Night’s Watch Tournament Banner. This is a fabric banner which has on it the pledge made by all members of the Night’s Watch.

It’s an impressively large item, measuring about 5ft in height!

Finally, the menu card.

It contains a good amount of detail about each item, as well as their values.

I never take the values as gospel, simply because this is a box from Hong Kong and often their items are Asia-exclusive or at least extremely difficult to find in the UK. Also I find you can never reply on RRP for anything. That being said, I’ve not yet valued the contents of one of their boxes at less, or even equal to, the price of their subscription.

I’ll start straight in, as I always do, at the contents value as I can discover. I use an online currency converter so they’re correct at time of writing. I can’t always take into account shipping costs of individual items, but I do my best to be fair.

Often I can find things on Amazon, but some of the items in Lootaku boxes are nigh on impossible to source in the UK, so sometimes I have to guesstimate. I also don’t use eBay as reference, as I find prices are not reliable or realistic.

We saw at the top that the monthly subscription is £48.36.

Iron Throne: I found an extremely similar, if not identical item on Amazon for £50.90 with Prime delivery.

OK, so that’s the box value and then some.

But to continue.

Dragon’s Egg: There are a ton of dragon’s eggs on the internet but I couldn’t find the identical one. So I’m going to call this £10.

Bottle Opener: Again, couldn’t find the exact one, so I’ll say £5.

Coins: There are loads of these around. I’ll call it £5 again for both.

Banner: This is an official HBO licensed item, and on Amazon it costs £17.85.

Total:  £88.75

I think you’ve got more than your money’s worth here!

Well, this box would make and Game of Thrones addict drool.

Even though the value isn’t quite as high as some previous boxes, the selection is fantastic. The Iron Throne replica is such an incredible item it’s worth the cost all by itself.

Funnily enough, even though I love all the items a great deal, I really like the bottle opener! I guess because it’s practical and yet still instantly recognizable to anyone who is familliar with the books or TV series. And I love having fan stuff in my home I can use.

This is a seriously collectible box. Every item is well thought out, and has a great deal of relevance to the GoT world.

Lootaku have really done an incredible job with this box, and they really take their fandom seriously.

Even though Lootaku is better know for its manga/anime emphasis, I love how sometimes they take a step into other fandoms (I’m still crazy about the Harry Potter box!) and do such an amazing job!
