Loot Crate – December 2015: Galaxy

Loot Crate Items

Somewhere in a galaxy far far away. Keyword ‘Galaxy’, it’s the Christmas Loot Crate! It’s focused on franchises set in space, including; Star Wars, Halo and Galaxy Quest. At least I have heard of Galaxy Quest but to be honest it was somewhere in the back of my mind, long forgotten and it didn’t really get me excited to see it. Luckily the Galaxy Quest item was a minor piece of this month’s crate. Star Wars takes the leading role here with two really nice items. Even my Wife who has never seen Star Wars before was excited to see the BB-8 socks.

There was a number of really good items this month but I will have to start with the Pop figure of Han Solo, it’s a bobblehead which is cool but personally I prefer the non-bobbleheads, they feel a little sturdier. What is there to say about Pop figures other than that they are great items, well made with good looks, ready to display anywhere.

There is a great pair of BB-8 socks included as well, the all over BB-8 design catches the eye and will look really great with everything, except if you had planned on wearing them with sandals, don’t wear them with sandals. They have a quality feel, although there was some loose threads but they appear to be superficial. They are soft and comfortable to wear so you can rock the look and be comfortable.

The included t-shirt does not seem to be based on anything in particular, it is just a generic ‘Christmas jumper’ design for the festive period. It’s a Gildan Softstyle t-shirt which means it is good quality, the sizing was a little long for me but in the past the t-shirts have shrunken a little in the wash and become a better fit. The possible shrinkage is something to think about if you are wondering about t-shirt sizes. Coming back to the design, I think it is a bit seasonal and doesn’t really work outside of the Christmas season which means it’s wear time is limited. Which takes away from the value of this Loot Crate for me.

In somewhat of a double feature there is the Halo tin box which holds everything else from this month’s Loot Crate, so you can see it’s a good size. I’ve wondered what the function of this tin would be outside of being the tin within the crate and really it is up to your imagination. Ahh the best gift of all, imagination. The best use for me has been a lunch box, I can fit some sandwiches, a few almonds and crisps in there for lunch, not bad and it looks really cool. Everyday I can sit down to lunch like Master Chief. I’m not sure what it is about this item but it feels a bit like fresh air, it is an item that has a large usage value, not just and I’m sorry to say, another keychain.

The final item is the Galaxy quest patch. There isn’t much to say about it other than it is a decent thickness, feels durable and the colours look crisp. The design is fairly low-key which means you can use it almost anywhere as it will fit in. Personally it’s not something I’d use but if you are into patches it would be worth it.

Pop figure, socks, t-shirt and tin box. Not a bad month, a great month if you love Star Wars. My main gripe being that the t-shirt design was too seasonal, detracting from it’s value. Which is an issue because it takes away one of the major items from this month’s crate. Keep an eye out for seasonal crates if you are thinking signing up, choose the month after to stay safe. Of course the content is still great so don’t sweat it too much.

Our score: 8.7/ 10
