Degustabox – April 2018

If you’re looking for a food and drink subscription box that offers excellent value for money, Degustabox is one of the best ones to sign up with! Their boxes are packed full of new and interesting products from a wide range of brands (a good mix of household and new ones), and they always have a great variety so that there’s something for everyone. I highly recommend Degustabox for families, students and simply anyone who enjoys trying out new food and drink products.

To give you an idea of what Degustabox have to offer, here are the contents of their latest April box:-

a2 Milk Long Life Semi-Skimmed Cows’ Milk (RRP £1.50)

a2 are a specialised type of cow’s milk which is naturally free from the A1 protein so that it’s gentle on sensitive stomachs, easier to digest and less likely to trigger symptoms associated with milk intolerance. This long-life bottle can be used just as would any other type of milk, so you can enjoy it on cereal, in coffee and tea etc. I don’t drink cows’ milk these days, but I have passed it onto my mum and she says it’s quite tasty!

The Food Doctor Snack Mixes (RRP 2 x £1 each)

For a healthy snack on the go or to pack into your lunchbox, these mixes from The Food Doctor are brilliant! There are two different flavours to try in this month’s box (Full Of Beans Protein Mix and Smokin’ Edamame Mix), and both of them were really good. They’re high in fibre and protein to keep you going throughout the day.

LioBites Strawberry & Banana Smoothie Bites (RRP £2.35)

These LioBites are 100% natural fruity crisps which feature a mix of Strawberry and Banana. They’re suitable for vegans, gluten-free, don’t have any added sugar and count as 1 of your 5 a day. I think these are great for kids’ lunchboxes to get them to eat more fruit, although they are very expensive for a small bag.

Idahoan’s Perfect Mash Roasted Garlic (RRP £1.50)

I haven’t eaten any instant mash for years, but I was very surprised by this one! Ready in just a minute, you simply add 475ml of boiling water to the mix and it blends really well to create a fluffy mash that you can enjoy with sausages or veg. GM and Gluten-free, these are perfect for keeping in the cupboard for those days when you’re too tired or don’t have the time to cook something from scratch, and I loved the subtle garlic flavour in this.

Mutti Passata (RRP £1.40)

Passata is a much-loved staple in my house, so I was pleased to see this Italian one from Mutti in the box. It has a lovely texture with a slight sweetness that’s very versatile for a number of dishes. Fantastic as a base for spaghetti bolognese, ratatouille, lasagne, chilli dishes, and so many more.

Mutti Finely Chopped Tomatoes (RRP £1)

Another staple that we get through a lot of are chopped tomatoes because like passata, you can use it in so many different dishes. Winner of a prestigious Great Taste award, this tin is packed full of only Italian tomatoes that are perfectly sweet and ripe for a thicker and tastier flavour. You can definitely tell that these are a higher quality than some other brands that you find in the supermarket!

Haribo Giant Strawbs (RRP £1.29)

Vegetarian-friendly Haribo – hooray! I love these Giant Strawbs, and they make a lovely sweet treat for when you want something fruity and chewy. These really are giant strawberries too, so you only need one or two to satisfy a craving. Yum!

Lucozade Energy Orange flavour (RRP £1.10)

I’m not a fan of Lucozade so I passed this onto one of my housemates to enjoy and he liked it as a post-workout drink.

Milkybar Wowsomes (RRP 2 x £0.55 each)

New from Milkybar are these Wowsomes which contain 30% less sugar than similar chocolate products and are free of artificial flavours, colours, sweeteners and preservatives. I received a bar of each flavour with one being White Chocolate and the other being Milk & White Chocolate, and you wouldn’t be able to tell that they’re less sugar at all as they’re still very sweet and delicious!

Juicy Fuel Cola in Cherry flavour (RRP £2)

Next up, I found an all-natural cola drink that contains no added sugar, artificial preservatives or sweeteners. If that isn’t good enough, it also counts as 1 of your 5 a day – how awesome is that?! I really enjoyed this Cherry flavour and would definitely buy it again.

Happy Down Cocktail in Lychee Guava Chilli flavour (RRP £2)

When you subscribe to Degustabox, you can choose whether you want the alcohol version or not, and if you said yes, you’ll receive a can of Happy Down Cocktail in your box this month (non-alcohol boxes will contain two cans of the Juicy Fuel Cola drink instead). I’ve seen these in Tesco and was curious to try one, so I’m glad that I finally get the opportunity – thanks Degustabox! This is a pre-mixed alcoholic cocktail drink which contains wine and a range of all-natural flavours. There’s no added sugar and no artificial preservatives, plus it’s only 44 calories per 100ml which is great to see. This flavour was very nice – fruity, refreshing and that touch of Chilli gives it a subtle little kick for something different.

Nick’s Kexbar (RRP £1.20)

Next up, I found a Nick’s Kexbar which is a crispy chocolate wafer with vanilla cream that’s covered in thick milk chocolate. It’s a Swedish brand and they’re on a mission to reduce the amount of sugar in the world of snacks, so there’s no added sugar in any of their products, including this Kexbar. It still tastes as good as a regular chocolate wafer too!

Trek Protein Energy Chunks (RRP 2 x £1.15 each)

New from Trek are these bags of Protein Energy Chunks and there are two different flavours to try; Cocoa Peanut Peak and Toffee Triumph. I’m a big fan of the regular Trek protein bars and these chunks are a delicious twist on those, but in bite-sized pieces. They’re both high in plant-based protein (12g per bag) and contain a mix of fruit, oats, nuts and crunchy pieces – yummy!

Nuttvia Hazelnut Spread (RRP £3.25)

This month’s box has a bonus product in the shape of a huge jar of Nuttvia Hazelnut Spread. Made with 97% less sugar that similar products on the market, it’s a tasty hazelnut-based spread which contains sweeteners and fat-reduced cocoa powder, for a healthier alternative. You can spread this onto just about anything; toast, crumpets, muffins, teacakes etc, or add a spoonful to your breakfast or porridge, or treat yourself to some straight from the jar!
