Cheese Posties have got to be one of the most fun and novel subscription services that I’ve ever come across. What is a Cheese Postie, I hear you ask? Well, it’s pretty much what you might think it is – a cheese toastie delivered through your letterbox, or rather all of the ingredients to make a cheese toastie. Oh yes – we are truly living in the golden age of ultra tasty convenience!
But these aren’t any old boring cheese toasties. Cheese Posties has instead taken a simple idea and let their imaginations run wild with it. Their online Cheeseboard gives you an idea of the kinds of toasties you can expect from them, and there’s a huge range of savoury and sweet combinations including everything from the traditional such as Ploughman’s, to the more adventurous flavours like Jaffa Cake and Taj Mahal. With over 100 toastie combinations in development, you’ll be truly spoilt for choice.
When you sign up to Cheese Posties, you fill in a short profile form where you can select your preferences such as Sweet, Savoury or a Bit Of Both?, Nuts or not?, Vegetarian or not? and there’s an ingredients list so if you hate something like onions or pickle, you can simply mark it on the hate list, and then you’ll never receive a toastie with that ingredient in it. Each Cheese Postie that you receive will be a surprise from their Cheeseboard so make sure that you fill in all the info if you have any special dietary requirements – it only takes a a minute or two!
You can also select how often you’d like a Cheese Postie to be sent to you e.g weekly, fortnightly, or monthly.
Cheese Posties deliver their products in a sturdy long box that fits straight through your letterbox, and they’re delivered via Royal Mail 1st Class. Opening it up, I was greeted with the following:-
- Welcome and info/instructions leaflet
- Teflon toasty bag
- Collectable Toast Trumps card
- All the ingredients to make a delicious cheese toastie!
For this month’s Cheese Posties, I was sent the number #11 Trois Couleurs which consists of:-
- Two slices of White Bread
- Two mini packs of Kerrygold Butter
- Stilton cheese
- Raspberry Jam
- Black Pepper
Interesting combination! As you can see, everything is packed separately in their individual containers – I think the box design is great and there were no issues with spillages or anything like that. I haven’t eaten any Stilton since Christmas, so I was really looking forward to trying this out and seeing how the jam would work with it.
I made this in the pan (you can of course use an ordinary toaster and the enclosed toasting bag, or a sandwich toaster machine if you have one), and the Stilton slowly melted beautifully. The bread was easy to brown and toast in the pan, and it held the sandwich together perfectly, whilst the generous portion of Stilton gently melted with the Raspberry Jam to create a delicious savoury-sweet combination. The addition of the Black Pepper was just enough to give it that little kick of seasoning to finish it off.
I thoroughly enjoyed this cheese toastie, and it definitely helped to cheer me up on a rainy morning! Cheese Posties certainly provides you with everything that you need for a high-quality cheese toastie which will easily rival anything that you’d pay for in a cafe as I was really impressed with the quality of the ingredients. It also gives you some interesting ideas for toastie recipes that you can then recreate at home at a later date – I know I’ll be trying another homemade Trois Couleurs in the near future. I can’t wait to see what they’re going to send next month!
