Now, I have to warn you this review may be a little biased…I LOVE  FOOD. I dream of retiring (!!! I’m a stay at home mum), let’s rephrase, moving to the Med. I’ll be pottering about in Cath Kidston print dresses complete with headscarves my wicker basket overflowing  with bread, cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and olives and pesto, tonnes of it and wine. It’s going to be a major improvement on wearing pyjamas and eating copious amounts of custard creams!

image (9)Bite to Savour is a seasonal subscription, delivering gourmet and artisan treats. Either, the annual subscription providing four boxes for £100 or trial boxes for £25. Their aim is to carefully select local products enabling small producers to reach the wider market. In addition, for every box purchased a meal is donated to a UK food bank.

Anyway, my excitement about receiving this box was palpable. The box itself shouts quality (as well as ‘Eat me fatty!’ – but that could just be mine). I think due to the clean fresh colours, reminiscent of a certain fancy supermarket (Heston’s favourite). I mention this as if you’re considering this for a gift, it really does look lovely.image (8)

Inside, the contents are packaged with straw like material and encased in black tissue paper, sealed with a ‘Bite to Savour’ label. See, I told you, classy.

The box I received was the Summer box, and contained the following:
* Ulster Weavers, Bite to Savour tea towel. This is a lovely little treat, beautiful quality and washes well. I can hide all my threadbare tatty tea towels and have this one out for show!

* Suki Tea, Red berry. 15 loose leaf pyramids. Oh my word! If fairies were to manufacture any refreshments, this has got to be it. These tea bags contain, rosehip shells, hibiscus, apple, elderberry and raspberry pieces and blackberry leaves. Even the bag itself looks indulgent like silky gossamer ( I kid you not!).

Now, herbal tea I always think it smells delicious but generally (aside from mint and camomile), just tastes like hot water…. Aha! Not this one, you can actually taste a fruity jam yumminess. I can’t wait to try it as an iced tea or maybe a cheeky cocktail.

image (7)* Red Dog, Texas spicy dry rub. I love spicy food and this rub is delicious. We added it to homemade fried chicken, it adds a cayenne kick, but not too much. The kids loved it too, and no-one was gulping gallons of water afterwards (yeah, my kids can be that dramatic!).This is a great addition to barbecues for any meat or vegetables.

* Flavour Magic, Lemon and dill rock salt. A very generous 100g pouch. Now, my partner is a very talented head chef, I on the other hand, am not. Once I find something I can do I stick with it. The kids still require therapy after last summers torrent of quiche. Guess what’s for tea? still now elicits the response of ‘Please don’t say quiche!’. Accompanied by high pitched wailing and eyes threatening tears. So I thought I’d make a special effort with this box of flavours. I used this rock salt on some fresh fish, just coated
it and popped in a hot pan. Then I sautéed some new potatoes and added a little of the rock salt too. It was easy peasy and tasted divine, really enhancing the fish and the potatoes were soooo moreish.

image (6)* Harnett’s rapeseed oil selection. Original rapeseed, Lemon & Thyme, Basil, Raspberry vinaigrette and Strawberry vinaigrette. I used the rapeseed oil to pan fry my fish and the vinaigrette I can certainly recommend to liven up any salad. The basil oil will be ideal for pasta or risotto. Another great product and generous sized samples.

* Bella Jo, Sweet Beetroot with Balsamic. If I ever manage to move to the Med, this will be all there is in my suitcase. There’s no word to describe this other than AMBROSIA and not the tinned kind! This is so versatile I served my pan fried fish on a ‘swoosh’. It’s delicious on salads/sandwiches with cheese or more decadently eaten straight from the jar with the biggest spoon you can find. Fortunately, Bite to Savour have an online store, where you can buy all these delights in one place. Other products from these companies are available there too. I can’t wait to try the Bella Jo fig relish. There’s also a fab offer of 10% of purchases, included in the box.

I highly recommend this box, it’s beautiful quality I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one as a gift. Great products provide inspiration in the kitchen and what a great idea to deliver them seasonally. I’m looking forward to autumn now!!
