Banjo Robinson – Canada

Receiving letters is one of life’s great pleasures, especially for children, so Banjo the Travelling Cat is the perfect penpal for kids! This adventurous kitty travels around the world and write a letter every two weeks from a new country.

Isn’t it colorful and fun? Banjo’s letters are beautifully illustrated, and contain stories about his adventures, as well and fun things about the country he is visiting.

Right now he is in Canada, speaking some French, learning about the history, as well as seeing the landscape. He also meets new animal friends along the way, and his letters include some terrific anecdotes.

The letters are personalised to your child, not just their name, but little details that you proved when subscribing such as pets and favorite foods. All these add and extra special touch.

You can even add your own PS to each letter, prompted by Banjo HQ before each letter is sent out, which is a great way for Banjo to offer congratulations, advice, or even just a reminder to keep a room tidy!

Banjo doesn’t just send a letter either. Also included are a colouring sheet, which references things from the letter. You also get a fun City Map activity sheet, and a delicious recipe card.

There are also a sheet of stickers. You get a sticker for the World Map which is included with your first Banjo letter, plus special stamps for the letter back.

And speaking of writing back…

Being a penpal works both ways, right? Banjo makes it very easy for children to write back by also including a piece of writing paper and an envelope. The paper is the perfect size for even the most reluctant writer to fill, and the back is blank for more writing or pictures. Banjo also includes prompts for drawing and writing ideas in his letters, so your child will always be able to think of something to write! The letter itself is posted under the sofa where it is collected by a local cat and passed on to Banjo.

Of course, parents actually sneak out the letter and then have a lovely keepsake of their children’s writing!

Our score: 10.0/ 10

Banjos stories and descriptions are so vivid and fun, and they really catch the imagination. Writing to a fun cat penpal is the perfect way to introduce writing letters, which is still an important skill even with email being so common. Banjo's letters encourage literacy and creativity, and the extra activities, especially the recipe card, are a lovely thing for parents and children to do together, especially at a time when kids are needing rather more amusement that usual! The subscription itself is only a fiver a month for a whole yea of letters, which is extraordinarily good value. This is really one of the loveliest things I have seen for children, and Banjo's letters are always a high point when they arrive!
