Abel & Cole: Veggie / Meat-Free Meal Kits/Recipe Boxes review

Abel & Cole are an online retailer that champions the very best organic food and drink and has a strong focus on sustainability. They are well known for their weekly fruit & veg box deliveries, and in addition, they have a wide range of other boxes and meal kits, with something being available for everyone.

Today, I’m going to focus on their Meal Kits and as a vegetarian, I was pleased to see a fantastic selection of exciting veggie and vegan options to choose from.

Each week, there are new recipes to pick from and you can skip deliveries if you’re going away as there are no contractual ties – just make sure to select any changes that you want by the midnight deadline (two days before your expected delivery).

Here’s what I received to give you an idea of what to expect.

Meal Kit 1: Golden Halloumi with Grilled Pepper Tabbouleh

Wow, what a fresh selection of organic produce! The boxes come with minimal plastic packaging and can be handed back to your delivery driver the next week for Abel & Cole to reuse.

For this meal kit, I received enough to serve four people for this delicious Halloumi based dish.

Each meal kit comes with an easy-to-follow recipe card that breaks down each step and it details the nutritional information in the corner of the leaflet as you can see above. This meal include two and half portion of your daily fruit and veg, so let’s get cooking!

What an incredible meal! Bursting with flavour, this was a tasty, light summer dish with zingy lemon and garlic wholewheat couscous, fresh mint, red onion, tomato and rocket, chargrilled red peppers and of course, those chunky slabs of salty fried Halloumi. A wholesome, filling meal with a very generous portion size – I’d definitely make this again!

Meal Kit 2: Teriyaki Tofu with Rice & Ginger Pickled Veg

The second meal kit that I tried out is suitable for vegans and is based around Tofu which I love. The selection of veg this time seemed a little less fresh and the spring onions were missing, but everything else was included in the small brown paper bag.

Like the first meal kit, this one came with an easy-to-follow recipe card and was quick to make – tasty fast food at last!

I’m not a fan of beetroot so I left that out (don’t worry, one of my housemates will use it!), but I’m so pleased with how this dish turned out. The Teriyaki Tofu was crispy and delicious, whilst the sticky rice added a comforting element. I was most surprised by the quick pickled veg which added a little zing to the dish. Well done Abel & Cole!
