YumeTwins – Japanese Kawaii September 2019

YumeTwins is a monthly box of Japanese kawaii products from Tokyo. It is part of the TokyoTreat subscription box group which also includes TokyoTreat and nomakenolife. Each box contains 6 – 8 kawaii items including plushies and lifestyle goods plus premium anime brands.

They have one-, three-, six-, and 12-month subscriptions costing $35.00, $33.50, $32.00, and $31.50 per month respectively (from around £25).

This month’s theme is Weekend Getaway.

I think after the summer break I’d really like to get away for a weekend!

The menu booklet contains a full list and descriptions of the items in the box.

Here’s the Sumikko Gurashi Plushie Bag. His name is Maigonoko, a blue whale, and he’s one of four possible character options. As he’s a bag he comes with a shoulder strap that you can clip on or remove to keep him as a regular plushie.

There’s also a zip underneath, which is the bag part. This is a very cute plushie,  though not really practical for using to carry much, there’s not much space inside for storage as he’s very soft and squishy!

This is a fun and useful item, a Kawaii Character Reversible Pouch. This has two sipped sections that are folded together and closed with poppers.

You can unsnap them, flip the pockets around and you have a different design on the other side! This would work well as a purse, or even a small makeup bag.

Something to attach to your luggage, a Shiba Luggage Tag. This rubberized tag comes in three different designs.

There’s also space on the other side to write any personal information.

This Sanrio Travel Bottle Set is actually supposed to be a set of two, but one didn’t make it into my box! Anyway, you’ll either get two Hello Kitty (pictured) or My Melody bottles, which each hold 30ml of liquid. Useful for an overnight stay or flying.

Finally, a Rilakkuma Bonjour Hangar. These little things are like phone charms or keychains, though they could be hung from any loop. This one has a French version of the one of the Rilakkuma characters.

Our score: 8.0/ 10

Some of this month's items are cute, but it feels a little thin to me this month. It's nice to have branded Sanrio/San-X items as they really are premium, and I was missing one of the little bottles, but I think that two wouldn't have felt much better, as three of the five items are very small. The luggage tag is definitely more souvenir than kawaii. The plushie is very cute, but not really useful as a bag. The purse is the most practical item by far, and I like how you can swap the sides and patterns around. I'm a great fan of practical yet kawaii goodies, and after last month's incredible Totoro box I think they had a hard act to follow. I can overlook the very occasional slightly weaker selection. than usual, but overall YumeTwins does offer terrific items that tick the kawaii boxes!
