Toppbox – November 2018

Toppbox is a monthly box of men’s grooming supplies. It costs £19 per month plus £3.35 p+p, but the box contents will always be a considerably higher value.

I love skincare products, but for this I have enlisted my lovely husband to try out the items and give his considered opinion!

The box is posted inside a jiffy bag with a bit of extra padding, so it’s well protected. I’ve never had anything damaged, even occasional glass items.

On top is the menu card. You get descriptions of all the items, as well as RRPs, and I do check them all!

This Optiat Men’s Hemp Face Mask is made by the same company that produces the fantastic coffee body scrub. They’ve used repurposed hemp husks this time, to produce a powder mask that you mix with water before applying. It also contains bentonite clay, which is known for its drawing out toxins from the skin.

It’s lovely to have things that smell good, and Morgan’s Pomade Body Lotion smells marvellous! It contains Vitamin B5 and Argan oil, so it’s very nourishing for skin, and it sink into the skin quickly. And apart from that, it has one of the nicest scents ever.

Mount Purious Hair and Scalp Conditioning Camellia Oil is apparently good for scalps regardless of whether they come with hair or not. Camellia oil has a reputation for nourishing the skin, so seems a good thing to put on your scalp, especially if you suffer from dry skin. This product is also 100% organic.

Friendly Soap do a great line in natural soap bars, and this Travel Soap is a great all-in-one bar that cleans face, body, and hair. The blend of lemongrass, lavender, tea tree, and peppermint also smells delicious. It’s real pleasure to use, not to mention very convenient.

Beards need to be washed like any other hair, and Lumberjack Beard Thickening Shampoo has been specially designed for facial hair. It contains Procapil, which apparently can promote hair growth, but either way, it’s a nice beard shampoo, and according to my thickly-bearded husband, specialist beard shampoo does work better for him than regular shampoo.

Finally, we have a non-grooming item. This is AM Get Clean Anti-Bacterial Spray. It’s a remarkably handy little thing to carry around. There’s a spray bottle of screen cleaner and it has a microfiber cloth actually wrapped around and attached to the bottle itself, so you don’t need to worry about carrying a separate cloth. It’s small enough to put in your pocket or bag, and useful to remind you to clean off your various screens, because they really do get astonishingly grubby.

One thing – the price isn’t quite accurate on the menu as I found this on Amazon for £5.99. But no matter, with everything else being accurate in prices, this box still represents superb value for money.

The beard shampoo is my husband’s favourite item from this box, and we both love the travel soap.

On a personal note, I have every intention of taking the body lotion for myself.

Christmas is coming soon, and a subscription would make a really lovely gift for the man in your life, with the added bonus that most of the items can be used by women as well.
