La Gourmet Box – November 2018: Organic Box

La Gourmet Box is a specialist gourmet food and drink supplier who curate beautiful gift baskets and monthly subscription boxes for foodies who want to experience the very best of what France has to offer (they also do some lovely Spanish gift baskets too!).

They have recently launched a brand new box where everything included is strictly organic, and as an advocate for organic farming, I was very excited by this! Filled with products that are made by small-scale artisans from all over France, the new Organic Box is a huge treat for foodies and it would make a beautiful gift if you’re thinking of Christmas presents.

Everything inside is well packaged and you can tell that a lot of love has gone into making the box up, so let’s take a closer look at these French gourmet goodies!

Grand Cuvée 2016 AOP Côtes-du-Rhône Organic Red Wine (75cl)

The rise of vineyards turning to organic farming has been an interesting and welcome trend to see, so I was thrilled to see this beautiful bottle of Organic Red Wine in the box. This Grand Cuvée 2016 comes from the Domaine Vieux Manoir du Frigoulas in the famous Côtes-du-Rhône region, and this winemaker has been in business since the 13th century! In 2014 they made the switch to organic farming and this elegant red wine is a shining example of what can be achieved.

Made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault grapes, it has a powerfully fruity flavour with notes of Cherry, Blackcurrant and Spices. Perfect to enjoy with your favourite gourmet hors-d’oeuvres – it’s a superb bottle of red wine!

Les Mets d’Aimé Organic Orange Flavoured Carrot Spread and Parsnip Spread with Pear

Working with the very best locally sourced organic ingredients, Les Mets d’Aimé has put together these two delicious vegetable-based spreads which are packed full of exciting flavour. The Orange Flavoured Carrot Spread is smooth and tasty, and the Parsnip Spread with Pear is an innovative and original recipe – both are exquisite on toast or served as a warm dip. Delicious and different.

Algaé Gastronomie Wild Caught Tuna & Nori Paté

Seafood lovers will adore this interesting Wild Caught Tuna & Nori Paté – a subtle, smooth and slightly salty spread that has a strong tuna flavour entwined with fresh Nori Seaweed. A gourmet delicacy, it’s ideal as a snack on toast or blini or as an entrée in a seafood salad.

Notre Terre Organic Black Olive Tapenade and Green Olive Gourmet Paste with Almonds

I love olives and tapenades, and these two jars from Notre Terre are simply divine! On the left is the Black Olive Tapenade, an authentic taste of Black Olives blended with ingredients such as Capers, Garlic, Lemon Juice and Hot Pepper. It’s wonderfully savoury and delicious on toast and crackers!

On the right is the Green Olive Gourmet Paste with Almonds and this one is just as delicious but with a fresher, Green Olive flavour and a lovely nutty twist running throughout. I really enjoyed these two.

Biscuiterie Apiflor Savoury Organic Cantal Cheese Biscuits

You can’t have a French gourmet box without some cheese biscuits and these ones from the artisans Apiflor are a match made in heaven. Made in traditional bronze moulds and including authentic local Cantal cheese in the dough, these biscuits are perfect to nibble on whilst you enjoy a glass of wine. A word of warning though – you might not want to share these because they are so moreish!

Le Mottay Gourmand Organic Pork Rillettes with Candied Lemon

Pork rillettes are a delicacy in France, and these ones feature Candied Lemon for a seasonal twist. The artisan uses choice pork cuts (shoulder, belly and fatback), a dash of Guérande salt, and a pinch of white pepper, and then slowly cooks them for fifteen hours in a traditional cauldron, to give their rillettes a tenderness and flavour that’s out of this world. My sister tried these and she very much enjoyed them.

L’Attelier de Clisson Organic Candied Périgord Walnuts with Guérande Fleur de Sel

Saving the best to last, this jar of Candied Périgord Walnuts with Guérande Fleur de Sel have set the tone for Christmas and they are the tastiest candied walnuts that I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Produced in a small shop in Guérande, a town in southwest France famed for its butter and salt, every product is made using traditional methods and all-natural local ingredients, and these are some of the shop’s bestsellers. Delicious in every way!

Our score: 9.6/ 10

I am so happy to come across such a wonderful box of French gourmet delights and all organic too! This would make an excellent foodie gift for a fellow Francophile - the wine, cheese biscuits, tapenades and candied walnuts were especially delicious!
