YumeTwins – Japanese Kawaii January 2018

YumeTwins is a monthly box of Japanese kawaii products from Tokyo. It is part of the TokyoTreat subscription box group which also includes TokyoTreat and nomakenolife. Each box contains 6 – 8 kawaii items including plushies and lifestyle goods plus premium anime brands.

They have one-, three-, six-, and 12-month subscriptions costing $35.00, $33.50, $32.00, and $31.50 per month respectively. At current exchange rates this is £25.89, £24.78, £23.67, and £23.30. Shipping is free.

The box now contains a flyer rather than the menu booklet.  On the other side is a password for the online magazine and full contents list, plus information about their referral scheme and social media.

Generally there are several different variants for each item, so the ones in this box won’t be exactly the same as others. However I’ll give you an idea of the variations as well.

This month’s plush is huge! You can see him bursting out of the box above. The item is Wombat-san & Friends Large Daruma Plushie, and mine is one of his friends, a Penguin.

He’s absolutely gorgeous, incredibly soft and squishy. He also took up almost all the space in the box!

This little box is Gudetama Folk Tale Food. There are all kinds of varieties of this blind box, with various characters, and this one features the lovely Gudetama! The figures are tiny, but very cute, and there are eight possible variations. These boxes also come with a piece of gum as a little extra treat.

This is a Bread Animal Squishie. You often find bread shaped like little animals in Japanese bakeries, and this (one out of a possible eight) is made to resemble one of those cute bread rolls.

It’s also supposed to smell like bread, but I can’t really smell it. I always find squishies smell a bit chemical, so I can’t detect any other scent. It’s very cute though, and it’s got a little chain so you can attach it to your keys or bag.

Here’s a practical item, Disney Princess Nail Clippers. There are six different versions available (Alice isn’t a princess, but never mind). They’re big, rather like toenail clippers, and extremely sharp. They’re made by Green Bell, which apparently is regarded is one of the world’s best producers of metal cutting goods!

This Disney Tsum Tsum Cute Calendar is perfect for the New Year!

It stands up by itself, and comes with a whole lot of cute stickers to add to special dates.

One of Sanrio’s newest characters, Moppu, is featured on this Marumofubiyori Clear File. Very handy for paperwork, it adds a little dose of kawaii to filing!

Well, another enormous plushie this month! YumeTwins manage to find amazing plushies, and this one is no exception. A Daruma is a figure often seen in Japan around new year, and they are prayed to to ask for help with resolutions. So a great mix of culture and kawaii!

I’m really happy to see Gudetama in a box, even though this one is very tiny! I’m still hoping for a Gudetama plushie one day…

The nail clippers are really good, very useful and very sharp. I clip my nails short so I can never have too many sets of nail clippers!

The calendar is very cute, and I like the stickers, though it’s a bit too small to be really useful for organizing. However it’s nice to hang on the fridge or set on the side for a little extra Tsum Tsum kawaii vibe.

I’m slightly less keen on the squishie because I really don’t like how they smell. This one is pretty cute, though. I looked up the Japanese bakery animals, and there are tons out there, they look far too nice to eat!

The file goes nicely with last month’s pencil and eraser. It’s great to have a new character, especially one which isn’t available in the UK!

Value-wise, their items always come from Japan, so while it is sometimes possible to source them in the UK or Europe it can be tricky.

Having spent some time with Google, I can say that none of these things seem to be available in the UK or even in the West, so right now, at least, they all seem to be Japanese exclusive items. The Marumofubiyori line is certainly not available, or even being promoted, outside Japan.

I couldn’t find the nail clippers, but I can tell you that regular Green Bell brand nail clippers are extremely expensive! Clearly they live up to their reputation.

YumeTwins are including such big gorgeous plushies, though it does mean other items have to be pretty small as there’s not much space in the box for anything else! However the plushie is definitely the standout item this month, though I am remarkably pleased to have more nail clippers!
