Just Us Box – September 2016: Pillows and Poetry

If you think of a date night with your significant other, chances are it will involve getting dressed up, a nice meal out, a few drinks or a trip to the cinema. It’s good to make an effort once in a while and spend some quality time together, leaving the kids at home with a babysitter and taking a break.

But then sometimes the reality of organising all that is such a headache. What sounds like a great idea ends up with you struggling to find a babysitter, realising your best dress is covered in baby snot and you really can’t be arsed to even try and find your new mascara. You’re dialing Dominoes faster than you can say stuffed crust pizza.

But WAIT!

You can still do something lovely and memorable, just the two of you, without leaving the comfort of your sofa AND with a side of delicious, hot, home-delivered food.

Enter the latest instalment of Just Us Box, the date night in a box.

I really like this as a concept and the latest theme was Pillows and Poetry. The idea was to build a den at home, complete with twinkly fairy lights and a pretty silver length of star bunting, then read and write poetry together, have a laugh and relax.

In the box is everything you need to do this, including a massive piece of dark blue material for your den, a pretty length of white LED lights on copper wire (which are handily powered by batteries, which are included), pens and paper to write your poetry with and some felt tips to make a sign for your new den.

The blue fabric to make your poetry hideaway came in its own canvas tote bag for easy storage and had ribbons on the corners plus detailed instructions (with pictures and examples) of how you can make it into a den. There was also pegs, elastic bands and some rope to help you with the construction.

Photo 25-09-2016, 14 37 30I loved the silver star bunting which was made from metallic card and cotton. After I took down our den I made one for my son and used this as decoration.

The lights are really delicate and pretty (and according to the packaging can be used outside too) and this is something I love about Just Us Box, there are so many things included that you can use again once you’ve finished with your date night. These lights will definitely be making an appearance over Christmas.

To write your poetry there are sheets of lined paper and a hardbacked notebook. Sadly my notebook was dented in transit which was a shame but it’s still very nice and is a good quality. The felt tips are great for getting arty and there’s also a tea light and candle holder to help set the mood.

I really liked this box and yet again it was something that bit different for a date night. Sometimes it’s nice to take the pressure off having a great night out and kick back at home with something other than just a night in front of Netflix. Our poetry wasn’t up to much so I won’t share that but top marks again for Just Us Box and a new twist on the traditional date night.

Here’s my son’s den using things from this box:
