Degustabox – March 2018

Degustabox is one of my favourite food-based subscription boxes and I always look forward to receiving them every month. Each box offers fantastic value for money, as buying the products individually from a supermarket would cost you a lot more than the affordable subscription fee, and they always include a really good variety of household brands as well as some new ones that have recently come onto the market.

March’s Degustabox arrived a couple of days ago and my housemates and I have been enjoying trying out all of the goodies inside!

Smarties & Milkybar Mixed Mini Eggs (RRP £3)

As it’s Easter this weekend, Degustabox have included a large share bag of Smarties & Milkybar Mixed Mini Eggs for the whole family to enjoy! This mixed bag of chocolatey goodness combines the best of Smarties and Milkybar for a deliciously sweet treat this Easter. Needless to say, these haven’t lasted very long in my house!

Cirio Pasta Sauce in Classica flavour (RRP £2)

This popular Italian brand has just arrived in the UK, so Degustabox subscribers get to be among the first in the UK to try it and will receive one of two flavours in their box. I received the Classica flavour which features a rich blend of premium peeled plum tomatoes with a mix of vegetables, all sourced from Italy. I tried this over the weekend with some veggie mince and pasta, and it was so tasty. A great product to have in your cupboard when you want to make a quick and easy dinner.

Mr Lee’s Noodles in Dragon Fire Vegetables flavour (RRP £2.99)

Despite being a student, I’m not fond of instant pot noodles as they always taste too artificial for my liking, and let’s face it, most are not healthy in the slightest! However, I was pleased to see this one from Mr Lee’s which is Vegan-friendly, certified Gluten-free, low in Sugar and Saturated fats, and is only 208 calories per pot. Best of all, it’s free from MSG and nasties, and instead uses only freeze-dried ingredients which lock in all the nutrients for a healthier lunch option. How awesome is that?! There are two flavours available this month and this Dragon Fire Vegetables was really good; a great mix of Hot & Sour Rice Noodles with Red Miso, Bamboo Shoots, Green Beans, Mushrooms and Tamari Soy Sauce. I’d definitely buy this again!

Hafervoll Flapjack Limited Lebkuchen (RRP £1.99)

This German brand of flapjacks were the first to feature 100% natural oat bars that are made without added sugar, cheap filler ingredients and other chemical additives. They are gently handmade and oven-baked, for a comforting and filling treat. It’s been a while since I bought a flapjack but I was very surprised by how good this one was; this Limited Edition flavour had a lovely combination of Cinnamon, Ginger and Clove in it, with crunchy Walnuts and juicy Apricots.

Nestle Shreddies Max Granola (RRP £2.59)

If you like to get a serving of cereal-based protein with your daily breakfast, these Shreddies Max Granola pieces are ideal for the whole family to enjoy. Made with Wholegrains, Soya Protein and fortified with Vitamins and Minerals, they are an easy way to set yourself up for the day and get a fibre fix at the same time. I’ve been eating these with Oatly Chocolate Milk and love the crunchy and sweet texture.

Encona Carolina Reaper Chili Sauce (RRP £1.49)

New from Encona is the Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Chili Sauce, which is the hottest sauce that they make. I’m a huge fan of hot sauces and this one definitely brings the heat home! Carolina Reaper Chilies are the hottest in the world, and they’ve blended these with tomatoes and spices for a versatile sauce that you can use in many dishes. Use it as a marinade for meats and veggies, or add a drop or two to stews, curries and soups to give them a kick!

Ribena Pineapple & Passion Fruit Squash (RRP £2.49)

I don’t personally drink squash, but my housemates do and they’ve been enjoying this fruity new flavour from Ribena which features Pineapple and Passion Fruit. It has no added sugar and contains less than 15 calories per 250ml serving, so if you’re looking for a new fruity squash to try out, be sure to keep an eye out for this one at your local supermarket.

Canny 100% Natural Chocolate Milk (RRP £1.59)

As a special thank you to subscribers who have answered the most monthly surveys, Degustabox has included an extra treat for you this month! This Canny 100% Natural Chocolate Milk is made from all natural ingredients, is refined sugar-free (something that you don’t see a lot of in flavoured milks) and is also gluten-free as well. Best served chilled, this makes a lovely sweet drink for when you want something that’s a little more filling.

Appy Kids Co Roald Dahl Fruit Drinks in Mixed Berries flavour (pack of 3, RRP £1.29)

How cute are these?! Featuring Roald Dahl’s most loved book characters, Appy Kids Co have a whole range depicting different characters including Matilda, the BFG and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Vegan approved, and free from GMOs, gluten, added sugars and artificial preservatives, these fruity drinks cartons are perfect for kid’s lunchboxes. Great to see something like this from a wonderful British brand.

Tenzing Natural Energy Drink (RRP £1.19)

I’m always on the lookout for new natural energy drinks to try out and I haven’t seen this one from Tenzing before. Made from just six natural ingredients (Green Coffee, Guarana, Green Tea, Himalayan Rock Salt, Beet Sugar and Lemon Juice), this drink contains 55 calories and has nothing that’s artificial in it. It tastes very refreshing and definitely gives me a natural energy boost when I need it the most – ideal for those 3pm afternoon slumps at work or Uni!

Cheesestrings Snack Mix (RRP £1)

The last product is a voucher for the new Snack Mix from Cheesestrings. This after school snack has three individual sections consisting of crunchy crackers, real cubes of cheese and sweet yoghurt balls and raisins. Kids are encouraged to mix them up for a fun snack treat! I was kindly sent a few packs to try before the box was delivered for review purposes and my nieces have been loving them in their lunchboxes. Redeem your voucher at Morrisons, Tesco and Asda.
