Craftiosity Box – August 2017: Papercut Lamp

I have been loving the Craftiosity boxes that I’ve received as they are so unique, so well put together and it gives you a little craft project to complete each month (they’ve started doing monthly boxes now instead of bimonthly boxes!) which is something I haven’t seen with other subscription boxes. The project for the August box (I know it’s late, sorry!) is to make a papercut lamp which is a craft project I haven’t attempted before!

The kit came with various coloured paper, tracing paper and templates as well as a paper cutting mat, scalpels, glue and an LED tealight, the latter is my favourite part of the box. As always the instructions are simple, very easy to follow and laid out in a way that you could never mess up your project – they have a youtube tutorial available too though! Additionally, within the box was a packet of seed balls for butterflies containing forget-me-not, yarrow and red campion-nectar seeds which is a lovely little extra for the August box.

The project did take me longer than others as I did find the scalpels quite fiddly and difficult to use and I was on holiday in London and then Norway during August, hence why this review is so late. I did find the project enjoyable to finish, as I do with all of the amazing Craftiosity boxes I’ve been lucky enough to receive over the past few months.

I do love craft projects, especially at this time of the year as the nights are drawing in and it’s getting chilly so why not spend some cosy time indoors creating something unique and practical. I think this project is really unique and while it hasn’t been my favourite out of the few I’ve tried, it was still relaxing and fun to create!

While I’m not 100% happy with my creation (not the fault of the box or instructions at all), I do think it is cute and something I haven’t seen before. I now definitely want to look into papercutting and papercut projects/greeting cards as I think the outcome is so pretty. Also I now already have some of the tools to create other papercutting projects in the future which is one of the main reasons I love this subscription service as it isn’t a one use project per box, some items can be re-used.

I think the best part of the lamp and what makes it perfect for this time of the year is the little LED tealight that is included within the box as when placed inside the lamp it gives of such a warm glow and candle-like flicking that has such a cosy feel to it. Overall, even though my creation is looking a little rustic…I still enjoyed this project and I cannot recommend the Craftiosity subscription service enough!

Our score: 9.6/ 10

In summary, this box introduced to me a new crafting project that I hadn't tried before as well as tools I hadn't used before. As with the previous boxes and projects, I found it to be such a relaxing and anxiety reducing process with a cute end product. I also love the little LED tealight included as well as the seed balls with the August box!
