Cheese Posties – #3 Blueberry Smoothie

For cheese lovers in the UK, Cheese Posties is an utterly delicious and novel way to get your cheese fix sent straight through your letterbox. The clever play on the name is exactly what you think it is – yep, we’re talking about a cheese toastie here, delivered by post!

When you subscribe to Cheese Posties, you’ll be greeted with a fun and easy to use website where you can fill in a short questionnaire that asks you what your taste preferences are, with options available for vegetarians and those who can’t have nuts. You can also tell Cheese Posties about any ingredients or types of cheese that you don’t like, and they’ll make sure that you never receive this, plus you can decide whether you want only savoury or sweet flavours, or a mix of both. I’d highly recommend choosing a mix of both to get the best variety as I enjoy trying out new things.

So here’s where the fun starts. Cheese Posties will use the info that you’ve provided to conjure up a fresh cheese postie based on one of their exciting flavours from their online Cheeseboard. I say exciting because that’s exactly what they are. The team behind Cheese Posties have come up with some very different flavour combinations as you’ll soon see below! For this month’s Cheese Postie, I received the flavour ‘Blueberry Smoothie‘. This certainly raised a few eyebrows amongst my housemates! I couldn’t quite picture what this was going to taste like as a cheese toastie, but I was excited to try it out.Your Cheese Postie will arrive in a letterbox friendly box and is delivered 1st class by Royal Mail to ensure that it’s as fresh as possible. Each ingredient for the cheese toastie is in a separate container, and with your first Cheese Postie you’ll receive a free toasting bag as well.

For my Blueberry Smoothie cheese toastie, I received the following ingredients:-

  • Two slices of White Bread
  • Two mini packs of Kerrygold Butter
  • Mascarpone Cream Cheese
  • Mint
  • Blueberry Jam

The bread was good quality, and I liked the fact that they had included fresh Mint leaves, but I’m not sure that the Mascarpone Cream Cheese had travelled well as there was quite a lot of liquid that had escaped the plastic container and leaked underneath the box. However, upon opening it up, it seemed perfectly fine.I assembled the ingredients as so and decided to ‘toast’ the sandwich in the frying pan again as I personally think it’s the best method for allowing everything to ‘fuse’ together, plus you get a really lovely golden colour on the bread! You can, of course, use a toasting bag and pop this into your toaster if that’s easier for you.The end result – a Blueberry Smoothie Cheese Postie!

Biting into this was a delicious, squidgy, oozy mess. Despite the bread holding up well, I think there was too much cream cheese involved here, and I probably could have gotten away with just using half of the portion size provided. That said, I enjoyed this creamy cheese combination with the Blueberry Jam and the cooling Mint leaves – and yes, it did taste like a Blueberry Smoothie funnily enough! A strange one for sure, but a good one to try for something completely different to tickle your taste buds with.
