Bruu: February – All You Need is Bruu

I’d heard before that loose tea is where it’s at when it comes to the best brew to tickle your tastebuds but I’ve got to say that I, a) never really believed it, and b) I couldn’t be bothered faffing around with something that didn’t come in its own handy little bag.

Well, let me tell you, I was wrong on the first count and my laziness had been stopping me from enjoying distinct and vibrant flavours in my tea. Move over the generic taste you get with a lot of shop-bought options, once you try loose tea it’s hard to go back. That’s certainly in the case of Bruu tea at any rate.

OK sure, so you need to invest in a tea strainer to really enjoy loose teas (unless you enjoy crunching on a mouthful of leaves) but with Bruu I think it’s an investment worth making.

I was sent the February subscription box to test out. This included three teas, although the popular Rose Amour Black – perfect for the month’s Valentines theme – had sold out, so I was given the delicious Chococo Black instead, along with We Love Mango green tea and Lemon Sunshine rooibos tea.

Also included in the box (which fit right through my letterbox – no trekking off to the sorting office to collect it, which gets a big thumbs up from me) was a letter from Bruu founder Anneka with a brief explanation about the teas, a packet of Love Hearts, a candle lantern bag with a heart on it and a ‘love card’ with a sweet rhyme.

What did they taste like?

The all-important question, so let’s take each tea one by one.

Chococo Black

This was the first tea I tried, which was no surprise really as it contained actual chocolate chips, cocoa pieces, coconut pieces and black tea leaves. Not dust like you find in cheap tea bags, actual leaves.

This tea was mellow with a soft, velvety and well-rounded taste. It was flavoursome and not at all bitter. You can really smell and taste the chocolate but without it moving too far away from a tea and into the realms of a hot chocolate. I liked it a lot.

Lemon Sunshine

I love rooibos tea and drink a lot of it as it’s naturally caffeine free. This tea was deliciously clean and fresh with the hint of lemon adding a revitalising kick. I could drink this all day long as it was so refreshing.

We Love Mango

Green tea usually doesn’t hit the spot for me as I find it can be a bit bitter. However, as soon as you open the bag containing We Love Mango you can smell the ripe fruit and this translates into the tea, giving it a soft edge and packing it with a thirst-quenching gentle mango taste. I really enjoyed it, which surprised me to be honest as I didn’t think I would.

Another touch I thought was really good is that each tea comes in a 100g bag (which will make plenty of cups of tea) and there’s a note telling you how long to brew each one for and with what temperature water in order to get the best taste.

Even better, with the subscription you get all of this from £10 a month, which equates less than 12p a cup. Yep you read that right – great tasting loose tea and it’s not even expensive.

Can you tell I’m a big fan of this subscription box? I was really impressed and I would definitely love to try more types of Bruu teas.

Our score: 9.5/ 10

I loved this subscription box. The tea is great and is really high quality and if you're a tea lover (or know someone who is), Bruu teas will definitely hit the spot. I would totally recommend it.
